To 64-bit/'Core 2 Quad' or not to 64-bit/'Core 2 Quad'
Looking for some clarification on these areas. Searched through the forum and the product pages and could not find answers.
VideoStudio 11 claims:
Windows Vista™ Support for the latest-generation systems.
Intel® Core 2 Duo™ support ¡V enjoy improved performance from dual-core CPUs.
Is VS11 coded as 64-bit or 32-bit? Many video editing software claim to support Vista 64bit but actually perform as 32-bit. Thus not taking advantage of the OS and hardware.
Core 2 Quad has been out some time--is VS11 coded to take advantage the latest Quad Core processor/technology?
Thanks
Joe

Hi,
I don't know where to post this. Here seemed to be a OK.
I bought my new version of Videostudio 10 plus on the 16th of december 2006. Then came Videostudio 11 plus 4 months after.
Is there a policy of free upgrade ?? If there is, how many months ??
I tried to get a response from Element5 and they told me to address my demand to Ulead. I did that but as you know...still no answer.
Maybee you guys have an answer !
Thank you in advanced,
Pierre

The members of this User Board have done all we were able to let our members know a new version was coming along, I guess a few members didn't see these messages.

Free Upgrades to v10 recent buyers
The Corel rep I spoke to claimed Corel's policy is one month. If you bought within one month of a major upgrade, Corel has a policy of offering a free upgrade. I was 2 months... and the CSR knocked $20 off the upgrade.sjj1805 wrote:This has popped up before with previous products that have been upgraded. Because I have Vista x64 it was probably worth it.
Because I have a Quad Core chip that can still only use two cores, it was probably only worth it with the $20 discount.
However, things not done (at first glance) that would have made it a more valuable update are missing, including some UI changes to the Library manager and others to make managing large numbers of clips much easier.
Come on, folks -- six characters for a clip description? Even MS-DOS allowed 8.3!
If you want my money when v12 comes out... either there better be a required Microsoft operating system update, or you'd better go further to dazzle me with UI/usability improvements rather than just making it work with my operating system upgrade.

Hi Joe,
It's been coded as 32 bit and can work well on 64-bit as a 32-bit application.jaandrade3rd wrote:Is VS11 coded as 64-bit or 32-bit? Many video editing software claim to support Vista 64bit but actually perform as 32-bit. Thus not taking advantage of the OS and hardware.
Yes, it will take advantage of the latest Intel CPU technology.jaandrade3rd wrote:Core 2 Quad has been out some time--is VS11 coded to take advantage the latest Quad Core processor/technology?

Thanks for the info, ADBJester. Think I will wait for version 12.

Mr Robbo
11+ should be 11-
Having been happy with 10+ I was excited at the prospect of 11+ so downloaded an upgrade straightaway. How disappointed I am no observe that:
I only have one template in wizard
Only 2 flash animations, both of which are in 10+ and
No new filters.
In fact the only difference I have noticed is the additional time lines! What a let down!!!
I have advised Ulead and await a response
Should I have received a better product of did I have a download error do you think?

You might have a download error, or did you download the trial?
I know for a fact there are at least 3 new filters. Not sure about the wizard templates as I don't use it.

I've looked at VS11 and I'm not at all impressed. I was a big lover of version 9, then upgraded to version 10, which to this day still has de-interlacing issues. Now I've looked at 11 it seems they've chopped even more out than what they've put in. Am I missing something, but where's WMV9 in the save options. All I see is WMV8. Does'nt look as if there half the save options as there was in version 9. I wouldn't be surprised if version 12 comes with the box and no CD.

So far, I'm very pleased with the trial...I may finally upgrade from VideoStudio 8 at long last.
The only reason I didn't buy VideoStudio 10 last year is because there were ticks/pops in rendered audio, once a project was edited with Ulead and then converted to DVD files. Happily, this issue seems to have been resolved with VideoStudio 11.

So far I'm happy with it
I purchased VS 11 to support my Sony SR1 video footage. Being new to the product and only having about a week or so under my belt, it's taken a bit to get used to. But I have smart proxies set-up and am in the process of building out a couple of family videos from fottage I've shot over the last couple of months.

It's dissapointing that upgrading from 10+ costs exactly the same as upgrading from 10 standard or even 6! At the current price it's really not worth it, with an extra £10 off it would be more tempting.
Interestingly this is not the case with WinDVD, where the upgrade pricing does depend on whether you had standard or platinum in the previous version.

Trouble downloading
I want to download Video-studio 11 plus, but I've hit a hitch. Maybe someone can help me.
I can't find a site from which to download Microsoft directx 9, which is required, according to the instructions provided by Ulead, to run 11+. At microsoft I found lots of Directx 9 related programs (updates etc.) but not the program itself. Oh, and the page which Ulead links to in microsoft discribes Directx 10 and doesn't have any provision for downloading--at least so it seemed to me, who is not particularly savvy in technical matters.
Can someone help me?
Thanks,
Tzvi
