WinDVD Wish List for Future Versions

Please keep any suggestions sensible - plus this is not a place to complain about what YOU may consider to be bugs or faults. Those items should be placed in a new thread or tagged onto an existing one dealing with that same issue.
Hi. I'm using WinDVD for both DVD and composite for my outdoor security camera. The latter requires BW, brightness, and contrast adjustments for maximum visibility, especially at night.

It be nice if there was different display settings for each input, so that those settings switch automatically when switching inputs.

Another one, I want TV Panel/General panel to not hide automatically. So that when I start WinDVR it is up and showing always, unless I hide it myself.

Another one, I want to be able to select diffent inputs using different buttons

TV
Composite
S-Video
Etc

each one of the above a button... This is for the speed, and again it helps for security cam.

And of course I want an FM tuner. If Home Theater can have FM tuner there is no reason why WinDVR can't. Please don't hide display while FM tuner is on, just show freq and some other things, maybe visualization if can turn it on and off.

Thank you for these suggestions. I have moved your post to the appropriate forum and this has also been made a 'sticky'

I would like the ability to change video and audio settings on a per movie basis. That way I can have WinDVD automatically remember to brighten certain movies or use certain audio effects or even whether or not to cater for PAL or use a fixed aspect ratio. At the moment DVD only does automatic bookmarks on a per movie basis.

Agreed. I posted my inquiry on here because it's been a while since I contacted InterVideo, and I've heard nothing - not even a form letter response.

I would like to have a new version

- without Install Shield Update Service
- without Flexlm Update Service
- without iviRegMgr Service
- without Intervideo Information Service

Before I bought the program, I thought it would be a software for playing DVDs and other video and audio files and not just another "I'm permanently phoning home and consuming system resources without any sense" software. I don't think it's necessary for a media player to install a control panel cpl and several programs and services which try to connect to the internet without approval of the user. A "register online" and a "check for updates" button would have been sufficient.

This is a bit obscure to most, but I'd like to see digital BBE. It is used the JetAudio multimedia player, upper line Pioneer mobile audio head units, and also in this super nifty pro-audio plugin here http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/SonicMax/

However, something as powerful as that last example might be beyond the scope of WinDVD.

Oh, and bring back
DVD-Audio playback. PowerDVD managed to get most of the bugs worked out of their DVD-A playback.

And here's another obscure one - support
HDCD!

I forgot an obvious one,
DTS headphone.

I would like to suggest a thing that WinDVD had once, but unfurtunately was disable in the newer versions: the hability of mouse wheel to control the sound volume. IMO, this is a very useful option. In fact, there's a lot of people that think the same. Look here.

And would be great if you fix this TrimensionDNM bug here. Some DVD movies, like 'Contact' (by Robert Zemeckis, and with Jodie Foster), seem to turn of TrimensionDNM for a few seconds, doing a fast black image flash. You can notice this in the scene where the little Dr. Arroway says she needs a bigger antenna, and then we see a morph to the Jodie Foster in front of the big antenna from Arrecibo Observatory. This bug can be noticed in 'Lethal Weapon' (by Richard Donner, and with Mel Gibson) too, but I can't remember the exact scene.

First of all Windvd is the best all round player for audiophiles.

In terms of sound quality nothing comes close. But I want to point out a few things for future versions:

1. Please can you give an option for turning OFF the visualiser, most of us are not really interested in that

2. the Equaliser and audio booster settings seems to grey out when I play WAV format on windvd. Could you please provide support for sound control just like MP3 format.

3. The playlist window is a real pain, I never maximise the windvd video because i open various other applications at the same time and i like to see my desktop. So i dettach the playlist window and i put it to the left of and enlarge it just to see the name of the tracks. So i hope the playlist window is improved.

thats it for now...keep up the good work

how about actually letting HD/BD install on 64bit vista? yeah, it says they WinDVD is Vista compatible...but it doesn't seem to work that well...

Customer Service would be a great thing to add as well...

Boo on you Corel/Intervideo for killing a great program

How about support for HD-DVDs and Blu-Ray DVDs? Also, dump InstallShield.

Screengrabs at image scales greater than the actual DVD native resolution 720x480 with PNG and other image formats possible. PowerDVD does it.

Make HD and Bluray screengrabs possible somehow (I know why it's disabled, and I think it's rather silly, and it's the only reason I don't have a Bluray drive in my PC yet)

Hope to see a fixed version of 8 or a version 9 that works on a 640X480 screen size. I have vision problems and need a screen that size now. Windvd 8 does not work on a 640X480 screen very well.

Speed control

Post by Dig It »

Something I had in WinDVD 5 that I can't seem to setup in in WINDVD8 Platinum is the ability to use the mouse wheel to control playback speed. I use the software almost exclusively for video review of the volleyball team I coach, and the ability to quickly wheel backwards, or pause and do a frame by frame advance was invaluable!

Is this an option with the "more advanced, newer, better" version? Or do I need to go back to the "old" version?

Thank you in advance,

Scott

The release of WinDVD 9 is now imminent and so I have closed this thread and started a new one.

The new version follows the more traditional method of installation rather than asking for things like email address, activation code, last few number of your credit card etc.

Instead it requests you to supply a user name, organization and serial number. This alone is a tremendous improvement!!
