Canon XH G1/XHA1 on VS10+

I purchased a Canon XH A1 yesterday but have a G1 for the next few weeks as they had no A1's left in the shop so they lent me a G1.

Anyway, the point is that I connected the G1 upto the PC and then "Found New Hardware" wizard appears and I'm asked to insert my windows XP disc!!! I started up VS10+ but the program does not recognise the camera. What have I done wrong???
