Hi all.... as I've said before I'm a luddite so go easy....
I have a project which I have broken down into 3 parts, Intro, main body, and end sequence. I have previously assembled them and burnt the dvd which works fine. However, two of the clips in the main body segment however have not come out well, they are underwater video that I have done some colour correction on and have overdone it so I want to go back and re-edit them before burning.
Now.... I have the 3 seperate mpegs but I don't want to have to re-render any bits so have discountedthat as an option.
I also have the 3 original VSP files (before creating video files). I wanted to open file 2, edit 2 clips within it and save it again as a VSP. Then re-create vid files, re-burn the whole amended project to mpeg, then disk.
When I open VS10+ and try to open project on the first 2 segments I get a message that says: Unable to open file [file name].... file format mismatch. And yet I can open and edit the 3rd section perfectly well.
Admittedly,(and some of you may recall this), I had a problem with video filters and had to 'repair' the installation of VS10+.
Is there any way I can get access to edit those first 2 segments?
File format mismatch?????

check the size of the file name. If it is not old school standard 8.3, VS burps.. Already told support about that, but, they newbies to computer stuff and deny it.
Meaning, a file name in old MS format has to be eight characters for first name and three characters for the last name. i.e 12345678.123

yes, sorry for that. Way back when you were small, lol, (just poking humor, not at you) Microsoft developed a file naming system, it is known as 8.3, you see files that are named somethin.exe ... All files in that realm, can be whatever.??? , but, VS only will ONLY recognize that specific character count, i.e, 8.3. It's a very very old programming issue, something that should have washed away with systems like XP and so forth.
Simply put, use a program that can shorten the names of your files, and it will work.. I use a program specificly for that called "therename", just google it, or, look in the help areas here..
Another thing to note, it may depend on your version of Windoze. I am in USA, but, does not mean this may happen in another part of the world.

Is the "[file name]" you mentioned the name of the main files i.e. 1 and 2, or is it some other file that was part of the original project(s)?
As to that, the VSP files are not video files in themselves. They are Video Studio Project (VSP) files, and are quite small. They are really only a road map of what you have done in your project: files a, b, c etc located in C:\xxx etc, were inserted in such and such an order, and so and so editing was done to them, and a final file 1, 2 and 3 produced using such and such properties.
Do you still have the original video clips used in the project? Are they still in the same place? Have you edited any of them separately from the original project?
