Adding VIdeo FIlters to Part of a Clip

Post by astrovideo »

Hi,
Is it possible to add a filter to just a section of a clip? Whenever I drag a filter to a clip, it covers the entire clip. Additionally I'd like to adjust the aduio (mute, volume) for just a section of a clip instead of the entire clip. Is this possible? I am using version 7.

Thank you,
-Russ

Unfortunately the filters are applied to the entire clip. However with some filters you can customize them by keyframe. This may allow you to have the filter applied only to a small portion of a clip. The only other way would be to cut the clip, and apply the filter to the cut portion.

To "mute' part of a clip, go to Audio View. You should see a "rubber band" running down the center of the audio clip. You can place nodes (key points) and drag them up or down to adjust the volume.

Never used V7 but can u not make new clips with a duration required + then add the filter/ mute audio then insert these into the timeline to replace the original clips after cutting out parts of the original clips that you want to alter? regards Ken

Unfortunately, the audio controls in VS7 are rather primitive, and I am afraid I have to say that Vidoman's advice only applies to later versions of VS. With VS7, it is all or nothing -- you can only change the volume for the whole clip.

Yes, I am afraid the step up to VS8 from 7 was a quantum leap on the audio front, primitive though even the VS8 audio controls now seem in contrast to VS9 or 10...
