VS8: Failed to record data to the disk

Post by tonyjer »

Hi

This is a slight departure from the previous thread about the missing wnaspi.32dll so I hope it justifies a separate thread.

I eventually found an article and a link to adaptec's site to download their aspi utility and installed it. (there was some difficulty cos apparently I had no adaptec hardware but I used the workaround which allows you to install drivers manually and then I ran the ASPI32.EXE which suceesfully installed the 4 driver modules. (confirmed by ASPI checker)

I then tried to burn a project to disk in VS8 and got the following message:

"Failed to record data to the disk-Error-DVD-OW-ASPI-2A-04-03-OC-OO"

I feel like committing kamikaze now. Has anyone any ideas here?

Thanks for your time and help.

I am not sure that it did indeed require a separate thread.

However, can you confirm that you don't have either the Nero InCD module or the Roxio 'drag to disc' module or similar packet writing software installed on your computer? Essentially it is a program (which already exists in XP, though in basic form) which allows you to either drag or right click a file and send it to your burner. However, normally it does not burn immediately, but waits until sufficient files build up to fill a disc. Often, such programs simply take over the burner and deny access to it to other programs like VS -- probably on the basis that it is holding the burner ready for the eventual burn...

Hi Ken

The only Nero stuff I have is Nero Start Smart which I acquired a few years ago. Truth is it is very limited and does not allow DVD burning so I hardly ever use it. Consequently I have a WNASPI32.DLL file in Progs/Nero as well as the new version now saved in the system file. Just out of interest would you normally have one system WNASPI32.DLL in the system folder or would you expect to see

I only installed the Nero layer orginally cos it was the only one that got the "other software" to work. (ie the software which I now wish I'd never heard of) Someone earlier also suggested checking for Nero Burning Rights but I have nothing like that.

Thanks for your help.

I think the clue to your problem are the bits highlighted in red.
