Welcome David
Firstly what will the DVD be viewed using, a PC or a standalone DVD player (attached to a TV).
If the DVD will be viewed on a PC then what operating system does the PC use? Windows? Also is the file size important, does it need to be a small file size?

It may also help us to help you a great deal David if you tell us where in this great wide world you are - that way we can be more specific about settings - please fill in the 'location' box in your profile so that it appears to the left like mine and jparnolds.

Sounds as though you have a great deal to learn in a very short time - please start by reading this article :-

And as one Berry to another, I say, welcome to the forum!

But we also need to know how you are filming the original video, and what format it is in when you start off your project. Right click on some of the captured video within Video Studio and copy down ALL of its properties here please.

You also need to tell us what version of VS you are using, and as jp arnold has said, something about your computer specs and its operating system.

David,
We also need to know what format the output videos need to be in. Can we assume that as you need to hand in a CD and a DVD that the CD will be used with a PC (to view the video) and that the DVD will be used in a stand alone DVD player?
If this is the case then when you OUTPUT the video you will need to output it twice once in say MPEG2 or WMF format (the resulting file will then be burnt to a CD) and once direct to DVD.
It would seem that you are very new to video editing etc and there is a real learning path which can be learnt using Steve and Brian's suggested links which you should read carefully to ensure you do it correctly.
You could also use the DV TO DVD "wizard" which is displayed when Videostudio first starts up.
