I just purchased a WinTV HVR 1600 card that included MovieFactory 5.0 SE. I needed the new TV card, and it does work, after installing Windows Vista. I installed whatever patches (ddr..., bddr...) I could find at Ulead website, although I did not see any patches with "SE" in the name. When I connect my Sony Hi8 camcorder via S-video cable to the S-video-in on the TV card, after clicking MovieFactory's "Capture videos from a video device", the message says "Failed to initialize capture" and "No capture driver is available in the system.". I need help.
Thank you.

Welcome to the forums Jerry,
I don't believe you are going to get your MF5SE to work on a Vista Machine. They did issue a patch for MF5, however the patches generally as you found out, do not install to TBYB or SE versions.
The only remedy that I know of is to upgrade to DMF6+, which is Vista compatible, or not run Vista.

I would suggest to check with Hauppauge to see if they are offering an update driver and a standalone capture program for your TV card on Vista. I think the DVDMF version you are using cannot detect the TV card on Vista due to the driver issue....
For SE versions, you also need to ask for update packs from hardware providers because it's their call to decide if they will support any future Windows versions for their devices.

I downloaded MovieFactory 6+ trial version and installed it. After I connecting my SONY Hi8 camcorder with an S-video cable to my HVR 1600 TV card, and tried Import/Capture, I got the message "Failed to connect to driver: Hauppage WinTV 414 Video Capture". Source item says "Analog TV" and the only other item listed is "Digital TV". The screen on the Capture Video panel remains black. WinTV 2000 is working and the TV card works with Windows Media Center. I have a cable connected to the TV card that connect to a splitter near the sattelite TV box in another room, so the TV card channel can only be viewed on channel 3, to view whatever channel the sattelite box is tuned to. I did have to re-scan in WinTV 2000 after installing MF6Plus.
Any suggestions what to try to get video capture to work?

Most users use win2000 to capture video from these devices and then import the videos into MF.I think the DVDMF version you are using cannot detect the TV card on Vista due to the driver issue....
Besides, your capture device uses direct hardware compression and if you did get MF to recognize the device you have to create custom settings(templates) to capture with. The win2000 capture software lets you easily set these parameters.
