Can't see video on playback

Post by Christine Zambory »

I have had version 5 for quite a while now but only recently has this problem started. I cannot see the video of anything that i play - rather i see the standard coloured swirling pattern. Any suggestions on how to fix this?

This issue usually happen when the display card driver is not compatible with WinDVD. What display card do you use? Have you tried to update the display card driver?

Hope this helps.

Sorry i do not know where to check for what display card driver i have. My laptop is only about 2 years old and winDVD has been working fine until a couple of days ago. What website would i be able to get an update from to see if this fixes the problem?

I've worked out that it appears that it's only tv shows i've downloaded that are not playing. DVD's that i've bought are playing fine. However as i said before i've played these particular files on winDVD before and they were ok then.

Ted, I just wanted to thank you for this suggestion ... I installed v8 of WinDVD Gold last night but the display was virtually black & white ... taking your suggestion, I determined my display adapter's name using Control Panel System stuff, in my case SiS650.

1st, I tried to let Windows update the driver by allowing it to use internet resources ... the report was that I already had the latest driver and that a later was not available.

I then googled for my adaptor, SiS650 Display Adapter, found it at the Sis website, downloaded the later version which, in fact, WAS, available (despite the Windows report, above), and installed it.

Now, all is well. I've gone into this much detail since I'd suppose other users would be similarly affected.

Thanks, again.
