Music Performances/scene changes

Post by greg mgm »

I thought I read a post about this before, but I can't find it now...I shot video of 6 street performers and various beach boardwalk scenes. I'd like to start a scene with a performer, cut to different scenes with the performers music playing, then return to the performer ending the song. I just experimented a bit with the overlay track. If I put other scenes onto the overlay track and drag out the "box" so the overlay fills the screen (not PIP), and mute the audio, I seem to get the results I want. Is this an OK method? It seems to work!

While you don't say which version of VS you are using, it certainly sounds OK to me. And hey, if it works, that is all you are after anyway...

OK you perhaps only have one camera but the procedure is the same.

Oh ya, I use VS 10.
"If it works, it works" Isn't that a famous song by someone? Maybe it should be! (lol)
Yes, the video is from one camera. Using the overlay track and expanding the boxes to fill the screen makes it a breeze to cut between scenes. Thanks for that link. Lot's of great info.

BTW, to expand the "box" in the overlay track you do not need to stretch all four sides. Just right click on it and choose Fit to Screen. Or, if you want ALL of your overlays to fill the screen go to File > Preferences > General Tab, and check Use Fit-to-Screen as Default Size in Overlay Track.
