1st Timer, having problems with VS10

Post by cyco »

Hey guys, I thought this video editing stuff would be easy, but I was wrong. First off, let me explain what I'm trying to do. Right now I have a .mov video clip that is 9minutes and 28 seconds. It's a video I recorded with a Kodak DC of me working out on the heavy bag. Every 2 and a half minutes or so, I take about a 45 sec breather, while the video is still shooting. I would like to cut these pauses out of my video and eventually add some background music. Also, I want to make a separate video keeping the pauses, but sped up so it plays back the video in less than 30 seconds. In the background of the shot is a beautiful view of the blue sky on a semi cloudy day. When you drag the cursor along in a media player, you can speed up the video and you see the clouds moving in slow motion with frames of me hitting the bag, in other words a time lapse video. If I can make 4 videos(1 training session split into 3 and then the time lapse), the way I'm envisioning them, I would be a happy man. So far though, I'm encountering problems as soon as touch the video with VS.

Problem: Whenever I go to cut a clip, the audio is ruined and so is the video. I used the mutli-trim video option to remove the first 20 seconds of the clip. Just to make sure the video changed, I had VS save the new video. I played it back and the first 20 seconds were not gone, in fact the video was playing at probably 25% speed and the audio was ruined. I never messed with the playback options or the audio options. How do I just easily cut clips and have them play with the speed and sound they're supposed to have?

Once I figure that problem out and make my first basic video, I'd like to then try and do the time lapse version.

For MOV video clips from Kodak and Olympus, all I can suggest for now is to use Quicktime Pro to reconvert the video clip to MOV format and then import the renderd file to VideoStudio and then edit.

This is just a suggestion.

Please read this thread regarding the Kodak .mov patch.

I wonder if this will help?

G'day.
The way I'd start tackling this one would be firstly get your raw footage (with audio) captured. When dragged into timeline, click 'split audio' that way you have the audio seperate and can now drop various clips over your original soundtrack hence solving audio problems when you change the speed of the clip.

I'd then make several clips from your original file. Shortening some, changing speeds etc. Then simply place them in order on your timeline over the originally 'split audio'. Then play back and review and see if this works...

Hoping I am on track with your problem?

All the best
