Why do brightness filters ruin the sharpness and quality?

Is there a way to brighten up a clip without making it look blurry and grainy? These filters have been making the quality go down a lot.

Are you using one of the presets, and if so, which one? Try this: customize the filter, leaving the Brightness and Contrast settings at 0, and tweak only the Gamma setting.

if you try this to an MPG2 direct clip expect this happen.

also if you have a JPG and sharpen the image at some point all the pixels get funny edges.

i am not to sure if this happens with AVi's?

dont try to oversharpen the image must be the rule here!
