G'day SV users,
I am currently using SV10+ which I find brilliant. I have 2 questions I am hoping you can help me with:
1. When I insert a JPeg image with good resolution (5 to 6M) it looks pretty sharp. When I review the project the image becomes a little darker and blured. Is there some trick to inserting an image which remains sharp when viewed.
2. When I put a project together of say 1 hour using MPeg files and tick the box which indicates not to re render compliant MPeg files, why then does it still take over an hour to render and then again to encode to DVD. It appears to take the same amount of time when I compile the project using AVI files. I have a P4, 3Gig processor, 512meg ram, and am running XP.
Regards Mark

From past experience I too notice that when viewing still images in the preview window they appear to be low resolution (not as sharp as the original) however when you render the project you will see that they are ok. It seems that the preview window does not render quite as good probably as there is not enough time to render in high quality and display in real time.
I can't answer your second question - hopefully someone else will,

1. The image will be resampled to your project properties. Say for example, you are trying to make a DVD with 720 x 480 frame resolution, images will be resampled to 720 x 480, so even if you have high resolution images it will be converted to your project properties thus the image will then be converted to a video.
2. The software will not rerender the file if and only if the video are being read by the software as a DVD format which say for example an MPEg-2 file with 720 x 480 frame size and a 2000 - 9800 kbps data rate range.

Hi
As you are in Australia you are using the Pal system.
1. Your images will be re-sampled, but to 768 x 576 this is 4 x 3 aspect ratio.
I find it best to use image having a 4 x 3 ratio.
768 x 576 being the minimum size.
2. After editing I find it best to create a new video file of your project. (Share Create Video File)
The render will take some time.
Use this video file in the burner module. (Share Create Disc-Add Video)
If you goto the burner module using your project then Video Studio WILL render the project prior to burning the disc. This has caused some problems in the past.

Thanks Guys,
This all makes things a little clearer. However on occasions I have made compilations of DVDs. Meaning I input MPEG video from several DVDs. I then create a video file of the project which takes a little over an hour for an hour long project. Lastly, as per forum instructions, I create a new project add the video file, add chapters etc and then burn to disk. Again the burn takes a little over an hour. Is this normal.

Well, it will all depend on whether the single file you produce is fully DVD compliant AND that you have ticked the box beside "do no convert compliant mpeg files" in the Options cogwheel icon in the bottom left of the burning screen.
I assume when you produce that file you use Share > Create Video File > DVD rather than Share > Create Video File >mpeg-2, because if your choose the latter, then the default is not DVD-compliant.

It also depends on any transitions or video filters used, any soundtrack(s), and whether you have a DVD menu. The more you have, the longer it will take.
