Top portion of video
I record my shows using Windows Media Center XP. Often the show comes up with a moving white line on the top that goes away when the commercials come on but reamins throughout the whole episode. It is very distracting. I do not know why this happens but I thought maybe someone here would know how to either stop it or clip that portion of the vidoe off.
The information (white line) is actually normal in the transmission signal.
The software capture/playback device combination is supposed to use overscan so this information isn't displayed.
Some software lets you adjust this and some doesn't.
I don't know if there's an option to use 3:2 Pulldown that may help it.
Also there may be an incompatible settings in your tuner setup.

Whatever software your capturing with.
It may not fix it but worth a try. Can be a real technical issue.
I've had this problem before, usually solved by installing the latest drivers.
Videos displayed on the computer screen is controlled by "Screen Overlay" settings. Maybe also check in your video cards advanced settings and check for some fine tuning features related to the "Overlay Functions" of your video card.
I know in my NVidia card (GT 6600) I have zoom and overlay features.
I can also control the brightness, contrast etc.
Also sometimes when the video signal is way to high (from an amplifier) this can overdrive the circuits which can affect the display. Usually this is controlled by the AGC (automatic gain control) circuitry, but if the signal is to high the AGC circuit can't function properly.
This list of possible causes could go on and on......if you can't fix it then put a piece of ducttape across the TV to hide the annoying line

Vidcrop
I downloaded a program called vidcrop. It is suppossed to crop parts of the video which is exactly what I want to do because nothing else is working. The only problem is all my files are mpeg and when I try to import them to the program it says bad file. Does anyone have any experience with this or have a suggestion. I can't deal with the line!
