Unable to capture usb on sony hc-40

Post by larrym »

Previously I have used Movie Factory 2 and decided to download the trial version of Movie Factory 6. I cannot get it to capture data. It appears that it is, but it is only writing blank data. I cannot contact tech support as it is a trial version. Any help would be appreciated. Using Windows xp, and Picture Packagge does capture data ok.

This might not be the problem, but in general you will get better results with a firewire connection.
Using Windows xp, and Picture Packagge does capture data ok.
You can always capture with that software, and then use Movie Factory to edit and make a DVD. (Although, you shouldn't have to do that with a MiniDV camera.)

Firewire

Thanks for the reply. I do not have a firewire port, but ordered a card bus card for my lappie. Another concern is that under "device" in the capture program it states"Sony Video Imagine Device2". The 2 concerns me. Do you know where this comes from? Thanks

Your cam has these connectors - A/V Input, A/V Output, i.Link - IEEE 1394, USB - Universal Serial Bus
To transfer the video from the tape you would use the firewire connection.
The USB connection is usually to transfer pictures from the memory card.
When you do connect the camcorder to the computer only connect one cable.

Either the firewire to transfer video (dv) or usb to transfer the pictures.
I think if you read your manual you can possibly damage the camcorder if you connect both the firewire & usb to the computer at the same time.

Your camera is a MiniDV.

All Ulead video editing and dvd authoring software can support video capturing from MiniDV cameras.

You need a OHCI firewire card (not proprietary firewire card) and a firewire cable for you to capture videos from MiniDV.

Some miniDV cameras supports Video streaming through USB that is why some software can capture ANALOG videos from the DV cameras and as posted, the USB is for transferring images/ video clips from memory cards.

To get the digital video from DV using Ulead software use firewire.

Im not recommedning USB for video capturing from DV camera.
