Hi,

It would be helpful to have some means to mark normal broadcast audio levels for voices and music separately. Background music level should be set at a fixed amount below that of voices. A marker for each is useful.

Audio in video or even in audio clips is often all over the map with respect to levels. Trouble is that we don't have an audio reference setting or level that would guide us to getting voice audio at a proper level for broadcast. If we could set this properly then we could adjust other levels to match it.

Having vocal audio set properly then allows us to set background music levels properly. Background music levels if properly set, will still allow one to hear the voices clearly without them being drowned out by background music.

Unfortunately, excessively loud background music in tv shows and movies often spoils the enjoyment for me. Younger people may not be aware that when your hearing starts to go, one of the first things you lose is the ability to filter out the conversation you're listening to from background noise or music.

Parralel rendering - when will it happen?

Post by ruggy1 »

I have been complaining about the lack of parallel processing for years. As ADBjester inferred and I have said previously in this forum, this whole 'Dual Core' thing is a sham meant to hide the fact that Intel hit a brick wall with processing speed 4 years ago. How many of us want to do more than one CPU intense task at a time, I would estimate zero. My old P4 3.4GHz is still the fastest way to render video and it is getting old! Unless software companies come to the party and do what ADBjester and I have been saying for ages, that is, split rendering across multiple CPUs to actually use the multiple cores, we will tread water for years to come. I would not mind paying more for a true parallelised version as it would cut my rendering workload considerably. What about it Corel???

Improved support for digicams and different resolutions

Post by 2Dogs »

I'd like to see improved support for formats other than mpeg2.

For example, many digital cameras feature mjpeg video files with 640x480 resolution, and 30 fps. These can be encoded to H.264, keeping the original resolution and frame rate. That's already possible in VS of course, but adjustments to the encoding are limited to varying the video and audio bitrates. It would be nice to have access to more parameters - or perhaps just to keep it simple, to have access to more encoding profiles. Users could then choose between the highest quality profiles, which would make use of two pass encoding and other available features of the H.264 codec, or even the open source x264 codec, or quicker encoding using more basic profiles.

My own Panasonic digicam can produce widescreen video output with 848x480 resolution, at 30fps. Again, it would be great to be able to encode this to H.264 without having to resample it to 640x480. I currently have to use another program to do this.

Some of the latest Kodak cameras, amongst others, can produce 720p video. It would be handy to have a full range H.264 profiles for that too.

It looks like the MKV container format will be increasingly popular. It may be that you'll be able to use it like DVD video, giving you interactive menus and chapter points.

All of the above will be increasingly relevant as more and more people use home theatre pc setups, and video editors that only really support DVD video features may be sidelined.

My wish is they sort out all the bugs first before introducing more features and more bugs!

Also dont keep on bringing out new version so quickly, we all dont have money to burn, maybe they should just update and keep the older version much longer then they have more time to sort the bugs out?

It riles me to see how many people have problems on here and in my simple case of a problem with ulppmgr.dll it seems it cant be solved by anyone, still what do you expect now Coral has taken over, I can see the Ulead product being slowly eroded away anyway and we all go to Pinnacle instead!

Thats my wish list, a product that works without crashing and destroying all the work you have done!

Lol!
Seriously when a big company takes over a smaller company things tend to change if you get my drift and its not always for the benefit of the users of the small companies software.
Cheers

This comes up a lot, bear in mind that you and I as well, have no clue how many people are not having any problems and don't post here.

Besides, this why this forum is here, someplace to go when you do have a problem.

I agree with you on that, there are probably hundreds if not thousand out there who do not know there are forums like this and just struggle on, and as you say there are probably the same ammount who have no problems at all, who knows?

Maybe in future VS programs they can make a short cut to these forums in the program themsleves, maybe they do already and I am blind?

Not directly to the forums itself, but, most go to or can check the Ulead web site.

For instance, in VS, prefences, the check box to check the web site for updates every so many days. MSP has a button on the menu bar to go to the web site, Cool 3d Production Studio access the web from the help menu button. Etc.

I am missing something, I think.. Ok, yea, I am confused. If this is what I am understanding, you add something to your project, then delete it outside of VS, you want VS not to complain?

Yes its annoying that if you have lets say a file in your desktop and want to move it u have to make your project find it again. Why cant it just place it in the ulead folder in my documents/ulead/videostudio/11/MY movie1/Video/put file here or something like that? Of course the my movie thing being the name of your project, or plac eit wherever you save the project at with a folder called My movie 1/Video/place file here...

Your working files can be put anywhere you want. You set your working folder in Preferences. When I am working on a project I have ALL my files in the working folder - video clips, audio clips, images, etc. When I'm done I just delete the folder and everything is all tidy again.

What - existing files elsewhere on your hard drive - you mean make duplicates? That would be a lot of wasted hard drive space especially if your dealing with DV or HDV files which are huge.

Not every video file you work with was imported from your camcorder with VideoStudio - many of us use source material from all sorts of places - TV Cards, DVD discs - Internet to name just a few.
