VideoStudio Wish List for Future Versions

Add the possibility to use FX and transistions in the overlay tracks !!
other products (Magix VDL 2007+) have been offering these features for a long period ! This feature should have already been included in VS11+: this upgraded version does not go far enough compared to 10+.
N.
P.S.: I would add, even if this could be seen as "strange", that a Linux version would be appreciated, and might be an opportunity for Ulead/Corel to get market share in this world: there is not so many video programs on this platform, and there is space enough for commercial programs...

Re: VideoStudio Wish List for Future Versions
I second that. Flash is by far the most widely used video format on the web now as it is cross platform and can be easily embeded into webpages. I currently have to import the files into Flash and re-encode the video. It would be nice to be able to do this directly in VS.circleoaks wrote:I would like to export in FLV in one step.

ideas
The ability to change the default attributes of filters. As an example I have never left the default values of the cropping filter as is, it would be nice to be able to set these to the users preference.
The ability to turn relink checking off and have it stay off until I enable it again.
extend relink checking so that it works the same in the library as it does for projects. In projects it automatically tries to relink all clips, which is nice, but in the library you have to do each individually.
To be able to apply filters and apply changes like volume to multiple clips
The whole library could use a rework. Slow to add, Slow to delete, Can't change the order of the user created folder names, drag and drop to the library has improved yet clips still end up where I didn't want them on occasion.
The ability to lock the scrolling of the timeline and library so whatever I'm working on stays where I want it.
On menus like Pan and Zoom, Cropping, include location coordinates of the selected area, either top left or center which would give me better control than grid lines or copying and applying attributes.
All I can think of for now.
Thanks for the chance to voice my suggestions

1. Would like a "purge temp" button on main screen to clean out unnecessary contents of a temp file before starting work on a new project.
2. On any main screen, I would like a "shadow menu" floater to give user an idea of what is in the main menu that would appear if you clicked on the button the cursor is hovering over. Of course this feature should also have an enable/disable feature associated with it.
3. Color correction tools similar to those of "video pilot".
4. A "Paint on photo tool" to let you paint an itinerary route on a map image.
5. A vectorscope.

I really like the smart scene menus but I don't like the way the music starts over when you go to another clip on the menu. I posted about this earlier to see if there was a way of stopping this happening but alas there wasn't. I don't know if it's possible, but I would be great if the software engineers could fix this for future versions.

The ability to save video filter settings to a Favorites-type folder or, at the very least, the ability to copy and paste the filter settings.

Transitions also for the overlay tracks.
Compatibility with transitions of previous versions, so that we can go on using our favourites (especially masks of VS9).
All personalization and extras saved to Documents folder (example: Corel Paint Shop Pro Photo XI), so that -if I have to reinstall- I already have all my settings saved.

My few wishes...
* Ability to adjust the sensitivity of a DV scan, when using split by scene - My camera 'skips a bit' and very often it would skip a second or duplicate a second on the time code, resulting in LOTS of extra clips - I have to capture with some older freeware DV transfer software were I can adjust the sensitivity...
* Batch encode multiple VS projects. Currently, the batch convert option only works with existing video, but not with projects. I use other authoring tools, and have to process each project individually, or create a disk and then extract the mpegs out of the VOBs.
* Allow an 'underlay' track. That is, specially when doing a lot of 4x3 videos that I want on 16x9, I would like to add a background video (as it's currently done on broadcast HD channels when displaying 4x3 content). Currently my only option is to create a 4x3 project, then import it in an overlay track on a 16x9 project, which has the background video on the main track.
* Able to export audio only in AC3 5.1 - Currently, to add a background AC3 5.1 track to a menu (using other authoring software) I have to create a dummy mpeg video, then demux it to extract the audio track...
* Encode to MPEG demuxed streams (ie mpv and ac3).

VideoStudio Wish List for Future
I would like the program to return to the folder relevant to the instruction level it's dealing with eg. If I save a project file but have previously opened an image or video it will go back to the last directory I have opened rather than the directory where the project is saved. Similarly for videos, images, music etc.

Ditto on some feature requests:
* Ehanced Library Manager - The standard windows explorer view options would be nice like icon, detail and list. It currently shows audio as icons which take up a lot of screen space and are useless. An enhanced list with the option to display title and duration would be great.
* Overlay Transitions - This should be a must have by now...
* Chromakey plus Mask - It would be nice if you could do both chromakey and mask rather than just one or the other.
* Enhanced Chromakey - Lighting a chromakey scene can be challenging. Adding some features like multiple color selection or smarter keying options would be helpful.
* Edit multiple projects - I usually import a project file into my timelines as primary or overlay tracks. It would be nice if you double click on it to be able to edit that project without having to close the primary project. Being able to edit multiple projects at one time would solve this.
* Sound Effects Audio Track - Having both narration and music tracks are great but need one more track for sound effects (explosions, applause, etc).
* 32bit Video - to handle alpha channel (transparent backgrounds)
* Paint-on-Video would be really cool (drawing on maps, highlighting, simple shapes, etc).
* Flash Encoding (FLV) as a share option
* How about an incentive discount for loyal VS users to upgrade to MS8? I just upgraded to VS11+ (been using VS forever) and now wishing I would have just gone MS8 for the chromakey enhancments and virtual clip editing
