HD Video - Canon HV10

Post by whitejames »

I've been editing old DV video inputed through my Canon HV10 for the past couple months, now I'm to the new video that's in HD. I can't seem to get the HD video onto my computer. I changed all the settings on the camcorder to HDV. I changed the "Select Device Control..." to HDV 1394 Device Control. Then I changed the "Change Capture Plug In..." to Ulead MPEG-4 Capture Plug-In. I saw in the FAQ that it should be set to HDV Capture Plug-In, but I don't see that option available. Now when I try to capture video I get an Error - "no video capture driver is installed or no device is connected". If I go back to the DV settings on my camcorder then Video Studio recognizes it and I can transfer regular DV again. How do I get HDV to work? why can't I see the HDV Plug-In?

Thanks,

Anybody else with a Canon HV10 out there? Just want to know if it's the camera or Video Studio that needs adjusting.

Thanks

Have you installed the HV10 support pack?

EDIT: I see from your other post that you have installed that support pack.

Doing a search for "HV10" returned several threads. Maybe one of them will help.

NOTEs:

* Windows Vista and the Windows logo are trademarks or registered trademarks of Microsoft Corporation in the United States and/or other countries
* This Update Pack is for Ulead® VideoStudio® 10/10 Plus (BOX, ESD, UPG, and activated TBYB) version.
* This Update Pack cannot be uninstalled.
* Since Video for Windows (VFW) is not supported in Vista, VFW codecs such as Indeo, Cinepak are not supported in Vista. The video content files provided by VideoStudio will now be encoded using .WMV instead of Indeo codecs.
* Some 3D transition effects that won¡¦t be supported on Vista are removed from current release, including: Flying Board, Flying Cube, Flying Flip, Flying Fold, and Folding Box. Some templates under "Album", "Flash Light" and "Mask" transition effect are also not supported.
* WDM devices are not supported by Vista. Thus, not supported by VideoStudio.
* WMV and MPEG 4 format CAPTURE is not supported.
* MOV and MPEG 4 formats are not supported in this version.
* WinDVD 7, PocketDV show, and Cool3D are not supported.
This is what the support pack for Vista says on the Ulead web site, I don't understand about all the formats not supported by the patch, however I think that HDV is not supported by the patch.

I would read this thread, depends on what version of Vista your using and some other things. You should be able to capture in windows movie maker or another program called HDVSplit.

I did an uninstall/reinstall everything and now the HDV Plug-in shows up in the options. I think the user account controls for Vista messes with installs, so I disabled it. Anyway, everything is working great with HD now.

Thanks
