Ulead MSP8 Constantly Crashing and Losing Transitions

Post by nikkykoolia »

I upgraded to MSP8 from 7.3 yesterday and it's turned into a nightmare. The application crashes constantly even though i have applied SP1. I am using a P4 3Ghz processor with 2 gb of RAM with a 500Gb hard drive. On occassions even before i click on a clip the application crashes. I made the mistake of upgrading in the middle of a project and unfortunately as i have edited in MSP8 i can't open the file in MSP7. Has anyone got any suggestions.

Another very very major irritant is that when i imported the project from MSP7 all the basic transitions were lost. Every time i reapply and make an alteration i lose all the transitions again. I would try saving but ... the application crashes. Help!

Right, i've done a complete uninstall of MSP8, removed all references to ulead from the registry and windows explorer, created a video editing profile with seperate administrator username, rebooted after each process, reinstalled and ... still the same problem.

I am loathe to do a repair of windows as in reinstalled the whole thing in January when the hard drive died and i have managed to partition just the way i want it with the program files on a different drive.

The other things i have'nt mentioned is that, as i only edit once in a while i only have a basic Radeon X300 grahics card. It was fine under MSP7 so i assumed it would be fine under MSP8. The other thing worth mentioning is that during the installation the procedure noted that i had a newer version of Quicktime already installed. I don't really use quicktime much. Has anyone found this to be an issue?

I've installed it on another newly built PC and have exactly the same problems so i can't assume its a PC problem but a problem with the actual application. After MSP crashed with the error message "Video Editor has encountered a problem and needs to close" the error message in the event viewer is Faulting application veditor.exe, version 8.0.0.0, faulting module unknown, version 0.0.0.0, fault address 0x00000000.

The video freezes however the audio continues playing

If there were a fault in MSP8, then all the thousands of users who run it well would experience the same problems, wouldn't they? I very rarely see a crash on any of 3 computers. It would appear you have a conflict somewhere, but where?

However, am I right in thinking that you are taking in a v.7 dvp into v.8 for your tests? As has been pointed out before, there is no guarantee of compatibility across versions. Anything started in v.7 should be finished in v.7 and v.8 reserved for new projects.

The clips have been ripped from various dvd presentations. I have selected certain clip uncompressed them and am puttng the clips together to form a single 10 minute presentation. I have also saved the audio stream in wav format. This has always worked prefectly in MSP7 and was fine until i upgraded to MSP8.
