Having trouble importing from VHS

Post by middlebury madness »

I have done this many times before without any problem. I am trying to put some of my VHS movie collection on DVD so I won't have to rebuy my entire collection.
I usually do it in mpeg format to save space. I have my VHS player hooked up to a canapus ADVC-300.

The last two movies I did didn't work. the first one was full of artifacts and the second one started out fine then went very dark.

My Preferences are Mpeg good quality I edit off the previews then make an iso file to burn to dvd.

What could have happened that would all of a sudden cause these problems?

thank You

It is possibly the VHS tapes even though they may appear to play correctly on your TV from the VHS player.

When I converted several hundred VHS tapes to DVD using the exact same settings and equipment, most converted without any problems. Some however got confined to the dustbin. The problem was worn or dirty tapes.

If you are using your previously tried and trusted settings I would try again with another tape. Sometimes you can save a bad tape by using a tape head cleaner in your player, adjust the tracking and also fast forward / rewind several times.

:D It was my canopus. After everything I finally convinced them to have a look and sure enough that solved it. Thank you
