Screen Size difference from DV to QT output

Post by David BUrton »

Our church uses a video presentation program SundayPlus to 'put stuff up on the big screen. At this time only it only supports QT movie format video playback.

The problem that I am running into is when I convert from another format such as DV at 720 X 480, the QT output is noticeably smaller. The vertical height appears to be about 5/6th the height of the original ( it leaves blank space at the top and bottom of the screen). The width appears to be about 7/8th of the original, again blank space on the left and right side of the screen. This does become noticeable when you go from a picture background that is full screen to the QT movie.

I have tried the nonsquare pixels option on compile and this helped a little. I am using Sorreson 3 (mispelled) compression at 74% if that makes any difference.

The actual playback quality is not bad, but I need a full screen.

I did not find anything about this on a quick screen of the postings, so if there is I am sorry.

Right click on the QT clip. What are the video attributes? 720 x 480 or something else?

You appear to have 16.9 selected in your project properties.
Alter it to 4.3 and it should fill the screen.

Nope. I just did a test and my 4:3 project comes out squished (with black bars top and bottom) when I render to a Quick Time format, which is also set to 4:3.

I have just recently rendered some of my videos to QT in order to post on Veoh. I don't remember them being squished (I'm sure I would have noticed). When I get home I will have to check this out.

Yes, he does say he also has black bars on the side. Still doesn't explain why my test was squished.

I've checked my videos here at home and, sure enough, they fill the screen. But they are rendered to the Veoh suggested 640 x 480. Still when I render to 720 x 480 the resulting video is squished, with black bars top and bottom. ( :?: )
