WinDVD8 / Vista Install probs - Dx Feb 2006 error

Post by gryphon2 »

Hi

I cant get the web download of WinDVD8 to install on my Vista Ultimate pc.
It says I need to install the Microsoft DirectX Feb2006 Runtime Web Installer. This is attempted but produces a message saying it has failed and setup will now exit.
I cant cancel the Dx install as it cancels the whole process.

What is the solution to this? Any advice gratefully received.

Please view:
Re-installation of WinDVD
It mentions they have changed the installer.

This didn't work. None of the folders etc mentioned exist on my PC as this is a CLEAN install of WinDVD8. It is also a new download of the program (20th April). I didnt have problems under XP but this is the first time I have tried installing this under Vista.

What next?

Thanks

intervideo support FAQ site wrote:Installation: Errors while installing DirectX/Visual C++ 2005
Before you install WinDVD 8, please download and install the Java Virtual Machine. Download the Java software from the Sun Java website.
http://www.java.com/en/download/index.jsp

WinDVD 8 requires for you to install two updates from Microsoft.

Microsoft Direct x
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/directx/default.mspx
and
Visual C++ 2005 Redisributable Package (x86)
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/deta ... laylang=en

Make sure you are connected to the internet while the setup for WInDVD 8 is running. Do not skip the installation of either one.

Notes:
1. If you have the Windows Firewall turned on (from the Control Panel), a prompt should appear warning you of an activity from InterVideo. Make sure to unblock this and allow WinDVD full access for it to install properly.
2. You need to have Administrator privilages for your user account in order for you to install and run WinDVD 8 properly.

Again no joy.

Remember I am using VISTA, your responses do seem geared around XP.

I already have the latest Java VM installed, and the download links u provide for DirectX and C++ do not state Vista as supported download.
However the DirectX instaler fails and the C++ installs but makes no difference to my issue.

I am running the WinDVD install "As Administrator"

I have even tried running the .msi from the temp folder instead of the setup.exe but this does not work either.

Not wishing to sound disrepectful, but I feel that stock answers are being posted without the problem being fully read/understood.

Try right-clicking on the WinDVD8 installer file and selecting "Run as Administrator". I had this problem too until I tried that. It's a good idea to always install software this way.

How do you select run as administrator. Do you right click on winDVD8.exe file?

What Noetus suggested is right-clicking on the install file, not the file that launches the program. The installer is the file you downloaded or on the CD, to install the program.

bfcmark,
What I have done is went to M$'s site and downloaded the April 2007 SDK manually and installed it (not sure you need to install the full package, progbably just the runtime, but I installed it all just in case) -> http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/deta ... layLang=en

It made it past the point where it wants to download the DirectX, but now says I have an invalid system...I am running Vista Ultimate 32 bit...Still searching how to resove that issue...

Are trying to install the MS DirectX from the web (using Run) or are you first saving it to your system (desktop) then running it? --->Also try shutting down your anti-virus and spam applications when you try to install. <--- Should be done when trying to install any application.

Same problem here using Windows Vista Ultimate 32bit. Gave up on trying to install the DirectX components through the WinDVD install, and downloaded the web package from http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/deta ... 6652cd92a3

The install fails using the DirectX End-User Runtime Web Installer available at the above URL from Microsoft. This appears to be an issue with Microsoft, not InterVideo, although it makes installing WinDVD completely impossible!

Would perhaps be a good idea not to rely on third party connectivity to be able to install WinDVD? Just a thought.

Update: Solved

Download the DirectX End-User Runtimes (June 2007) from here: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/deta ... 199d6626b5

Run the filename directx_jun2007_redist.exe. Extract to a folder, then inside that folder run DXSETUP.exe. This will update Vista (and Windows XP as appropriate) with the latest DirectX 9.0c runtime components. WinDVD then installs without complaint.

Yes that has solved the problem. However, the next problem is I have tried to play a DVD and the error message comes on the screen "Create overlay failed - Please lower your screen resolution or colour depth and try again". How do I solve this problem?
