Ulead Photo explorer PEX*.Image files can not be opened. HE

Post by GTBUCK »

I installed this software and it changed the file name to this PEX8.Image format. Now I can not open these photos and it has corrupted my BMP files also. Even Ulead can open the files and images now. Has this happened to anyone else and how can it be corrected? I have allot of very important files and pictures effected.

Welcome to the forums,

I don't know where that file extension came from. I checked everything in the preferences in PE and could not find one that would be a proprietary file format for PE.

Try going to the Associate section in Preferences and deselecting all the file formats. Then in Windows Explorer, go to Tools>Folder Options>File Types. Scroll down and find what it has for BMP (windows bitmap). You can change the program that is associated with that file type. If it is showing PhotoExplorer, then change it to a program of your liking.

a quick and easy way to alter the association of your bmp files is to find one with Windows Explorer, right click and select 'Open with'

You will see a list of programs you have previously used to open bmp files.
DO NOT select one from the list but instead select the 'choose program' option and navigate to it.
You will also see a tick box "Always use this program to open files of this type"

Next time you double click a bmp file it will use your chosen program.
Use this method to alter any other file types you wish to change.
