Kerning

Post by Mary »

I posted this on 15th;

I have just got PI XL. I am puzzled about the Kerning. Whether I have it checked or unchecked, there is absolutely no difference to the text. I can't understand why it has Character Spacing and Kerning. Aren't they the same thing?

but I got no reply so trying again.

In the help file of Ulead PhotoImpact 10, it says about Kerning as followings:

"Select to reduce the spacing between certain pairs of letters to improve their appearance. When a font is created, each character is given an invisible box that includes some space so that the letters don't overlap when displayed or printed. Some pairs of characters such as A and V, look better if the box overlap slightly, reducing the gap between them but still not overlapping."

It would depends on how the font is been designed. Not every font you will see the difference in kerning.

Hope this helps.
