WINDVD 8 Platinum NOT starting

Post by webhero77@hotmail.com »

After installing and activiting, prog runs fine.

After the initial execution of the program, it fails to open, producing a nice little error noise.... no message.

Cant run as admin, can't run it anyway...
tried several reinstalls, now can't activiate cuz it has expired since purchase...
i feel sadly dooped.... :(

any suggestions?

if not, can i request a refund?

I'm having exact same problem with WinDVD 8 Gold on Windows XP Pro, SP2. Cannot activate it after the trial period elapsed as it does not do anything after trying to execute - i.e. there is no activation dialog window and no WinDVD player. Have not heard back from tech support yet (10+ days, 2 requests). I've tried the clean re-install procedure from their Knowledge Base, but it did not work.

WinDVD's on holiday?

Same issue; execute WinDVD (v8.0.6.72), but nothing, no dialogues, nothing. :x The application just ignores the user and takes a nap. :?

I did hear back from Intervideo after my last post (12 days and 2 requests). They basically gave me the clean reinstall directions again (see below). After, I got the same error - WinDVD Gold would not launch the Activation screen on my Windows XP Pro, SP2 system.

I did 2 additional things to make mine work. However, I feel like it was only the "Run As..." that really solved the issue:

1) After doing step 8 below (removing the install information folder), I went into the regedit and searched on this string. There were a few keys that contained this same install information. I deleted these keys from the registry also. Since I did this prior to copleting the remaining steps and I still had the problem after completing their instructions then I feel like this step did not really help. However, if the next step does not work for you then you may try this procedure also.

2) After following my step above and their directions below, I then followed advice from a prior post to create a new Administrator user "windvd". Then use "Run As..." from the right-click menu on the WinDVD 8 desktop icon to make it run as this new user. After doing this and launching WinDVD, I finally got the Activation screen and was able to activate the software. After this, the "Run as" user is no longer needed as it runs with my normal Power User id.

Please install the new build version of WinDVD 8 from our website (version 8.0.6.109 uploaded on March 28, 2007). However, you have to uninstall the exsisting WinDVD 8 version (old build) that you have before download and installing the new WinDVD 8 trial version.

Uninstallation method:

1. Launch Windows Explorer and go to tools\folder option\advance setting to check "show hidden files and folders".
2. Clean up temp files from\Start menu\Programs\Accessories\System Tools\Disk Cleanup.
3. Go to "C:\Program Files\InterVideo"
4. Delete the folder for "DVD8".
5. Delete the following folders:
"C:\Program Files\Common Files\InterVideo"
"C:\Program file\InterVideo\Common\Bin"
7. Go to "C:\Program Files\InstallShield Installation Information"
8. Delete the folders "{20471B27-D702-4FE8-8DEC-0702CC8C0A85}"
9. Go to Start-->Run and type "regedit"
10. Go to "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\InterVideo"
11. Delete the folder "DVD8"
12. Go to "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\InterVideo"
13. Delete the folder "DVD8"
14. Close "Regedit"
15. Restart Windows then reinstall WinDVD 8

* When reinstalling WinDVD 8, please redownload the trial version from our website just to make sure that the installer file is updated and not corrupted. After installing the trial version, it will prompt you of the activation procudure again. You just need to obtain a new activation key from your Intervideo account to finish the activation procedure. Please follow these steps to obtain this new key:

Unfortunately not as for everyone as for you. :(
Executing has absolutely no effect in any account, admin, or otherwise. :?
By the way, the issue in this case is on WinXP SP2. :!:

Have you followed the instructions that davegclark got?

When I activate my WinDVD last time, I login to the Administrator account on my WinXP SP2 to activate it and it seems fine....

BTW, this is only a user-to-user forum. To get official support from InterVideo, you need to contact InterVideo Tech Support on their site.
