Burn failures with Movie Factory 5+

Post by iker »

Since upgrading form V4 to V5+ I have not had a successful burn when making a movie by adding video files. Converting title & Converting video of the title is OK. Video audio multiplexing is OK. Output disc freezes at 99%, Burning process is 0%. I tried the setting ¡¥test before burning¡¦. Again, output disc froze at 99% and ¡¥performing test in recording disc¡¦ was 0%, but at least nothing was written to disc this time.
Once the program has frozen ¡¥Windows Task Manager¡¦ will NOT work.
Can anyone help?

Have you tried burning to a hard drive folder rather than a disc.
This will reveal if the problem is related to your disc or the burner rather than the software.

If you can burn to a hard drive folder then you need to view
DVD burning/playback issues

I was able to burn to the hard drive and then used Nero to burn the iso file to DVD. The preference would be to use MV5+ and I will try burning at a slower speed.
I viewed the DVD burning/playback issues. Nero In-CD and Roxio Drag-to-disc are not installed but MV5+ does have Quick Drop 2. I don't think it's active but don't know how to remove it. I wonder if Windows Media Player 11 can cause problems. I have removed movie files form its file types.
My burner is a brand new Pioneer-112 so I would hope the firmware is up-to-date.
I can't understand why the MV5+ program freezes though.

A few months ago my DVD burner had to be replaced due to a foreign object finding its way into the disc tray.
Before that everything was working fine so I knew I had a perfectly good VideoProduction system.

After installing a brand new shop bought DVD drive I found that I was having burn problems. I went to the manufacturers website and lo and behold there was updated firmware. I installed it and haven't had a problem since.

I suppose the problem is that when you buy something 'new' from a shop, you have no idea how long they have had it in storage.

Thanks for the tip on firmware. There was an updated version that I have installed but the burning process using MV5+ still crashes.
After a crash I open up Task Manager (XP SP2) and it says "Press burn button to create DVD Step3/3". The burn button is greyed out as is the'Cancel' button.

QuickDrop is simply a handy utility that you can load when windows starts or Not load it. It's just a program. If it's loaded then on the taskbar right_click on the icon & select "Options". Under Options tell the program NOT to load when windows starts. Also right_clicking and select Close or Exit stops the program from running.

To see if Data-Add is active (the packet writer). Open up "My Computer" and right click on your DVD Writer, select "Properties". In the Properties of the DVD Writer if DATA-ADD is loaded you will see a TAB that says DATA-ADD. Unlike Nero InCD you can turn on DATA-ADD packet writer on the drive "On The Fly". So to find out if it's interfering with the burning under the TAB for DATA-ADD you can disable UDF writing/monitoring of the drive.

DATA-ADD should also be listed under Control_Panel -> add/remove programs icon if you want to un-install it.

For some reason MF5+ is having a problem finalizing the dvd, writing the lead-out section. sjj1805's suggestion of burning at a lower burning speed such as 4X fixes many issues because of dvd incompatibility issues with dvd media. Although I can burn most dvd's they all aren't 100% compatible with my burners.
