Army movements

Post by mike.petrie »

Does anyone know how to show army movements on a map. I've just seen a TV prog about Verdun and it shows maps of the areas with lines showing the army positions. Can anyone suggest a way of showing day-by-day movement on a broad front on the map. I recently saw a demo on the Forum of drawing a line to show a route using one map virgin, a second map marked with the route and using a slider transition but this is not what I'm looking for here. Any suggestions please. I'm using VS10+ and a Toshiba Laptop.

Not quite sure what you're trying to display.
Obviously not the Indianna Jones moving line.

Perhaps you just need to use static pictures created with a photo editor and display them slideshow style. Or are you after movement a bit like

I think Mike wants to do some kind of morphing on a position line to show movements. This would call for a rotoscoping programs. Not available in VS. Maybe using a flash animator?
This my understanding of it.

Thanks sjj1805 and daniel. It is what daniel is suggesting that I'm after but I can't see how to do it easily in VS10+ as you say Daniel. But I will try the method sjj1805 suggests with short (say 10 frame) stills as a slide show with no transitions. But it is laborious to do it one shot at a time, but hey, Disney made a fortune by doing that didn't he.

Thanks again for your suggestions

I think if it was me I would also try with short crossfades, that could maybe suggest a day-by-day or hour-by-hour "jumps" progression...
Like the satellite "animation" they show on weather forecasts..
This my understanding of it.
