GIF Animator missing

Post by Sparkie064 »

Hi All,

Just want to inform everyone that when one downloads PI12 with the three files (instead of 13 with previous versions), GIF Animator is missing. At least up until last Friday.

I have contacted Ulead about it and they told me to download the Components file (which I had already done and had run). This was not a solution to the missing GA. I contacted them again and have had no response to that message as of yet.

However, I did order the CD and have received it and it does have the 13 files and more important the GA was there. The downside is that it cost an extra $20, which some people may not be willing to pay for, especially if they don't know that GA is missing from the original download.

I just wanted you to know this in case anyone were to pose this as a problem. At least until it may be resolved by Ulead.

Thank you for listening,
Jan

That's interesting... :?

However you can just pop-over one page in the components download (from PI-12 components to PI-11 components) and there is a link to download PhotoAlbum and GIF Animator...

http://www.ulead.com/pi/esd1.htm

I see no difference in GIF-5 from the PI-11 and 12, since GIF-5 is a stand-alone application, it should not have any bearing on what version of PI you have installed.

I tried that before I got the CD, and it would not complete the setup as I do not have PI11.

Wish it did for others.

UGA5 is no longer part of the package with PhotoImpact.

I received confirmation regarding this today.

I think Corel/Ulead are making a very big mistake in doing this. But then Corel did do the same thing when they took of Jasc PaintShop Pro.

One reason Gif Animator is not included with PI12 is that Gif Animator is not Vista Supported.

However, it can always be installed from an older version. That's what I did, after I installed PI12 and found there was no animator, I just pulled an old CD with PI and installed only the animator.

Steve,

I think what Maureen stated is that it no longer is included with PI-12. True it was when we may have received it, but Corel-Intervideo/Ulead may have decided to remove it as part of the package.

I also checked my PI-12 and PI-11 disks, and GA is included on the Extra Content files. Maybe Maureen could post a screen grab of her PI-12 Extra-Content to verify if they have in fact dropped it from the PI-12 package..

It was not included in my extra content. I downloaded everything that was available and that was not in the package. Maybe they did include it in the earlier releases but not since the Vista Compatilble versions?

I downloaded the latest copy of
PhotoImpact 12 Contents_(upi12_contents_(e).exe) 225MB

Yes our fellow members are correct, GIF animator is no longer included inside it.

However it is still shown on their site as part of the bonus software when you buy PI. Surely this is at best misleading and at worst illegal?

I really think this is a stupid move on their part. If they looked around at the groups supporting and promoting their software they would see that GA is considered an integral part of the PI package.

I cant even see any commercial sense in it.

There's not any commercial sense in removing it. However this does not surprise me, because Corel has had their own (well what they took from Jasc) animation program, Animation Shop 3. I happen to have it, because I had purchased Jasc PSP 9, before Corel acquired Jasc. In my opinion GA is by far superior to AS 3.

So hopefully by Corel removing it as part of PI-12, they don't just kill it completely. They need to trash their AS3 and replace it with GA 5...

I heartily concur with Ron on that. I've tried Animation Shop and ImageReady, but GIF Animator 5 blows them away.

They either better update the web site or put GA 5 back in with PI.

I have recently purchased PI12. I run PI12 and open a "GIF" file and it opens "GIF Animator 5.05". So I do believe that GIF Animator is still part of the package. Hope this helps.

GA is still part of the "Components Download" for owners of PhotoImpact and, hence, I do not understand the humm-ho going on here
