Why can't I see my Jpeg files?

Post by rjkpics »

I have oodles of Jpegs from my Pentax *istD digital camera, and when I tried to load them to create a slideshow, the files do not show up in the directory. Meaning the files are there, such as a filed named IMGP1525.jpg, the last time I checked this was a valid file type for JPEG images. Many of the images are 1 meg and larger, is that why I don't see them listed as a compatible file type?
Am I doing something wrong in trying to import photo's in the slidewhow tool?

Thanks
Rick

At the top of the Add Slideshow window - Have you selected "All Formats" from the drop-down menu ?

I have all files selected, and I have even tried .jpg/jpeg only, but it still will not show the files (.jpg's) that the normal file browser window shows.

I also loaded the latest patch for Vista

Any other suggestions?

Depends how you transferred the pictures from the cam to your harddisk.
If you used the "RunAs" feature to let a program transfer the pictures to your harddisk then they may only be accessible by the administrator IF your running MF6 under your username (which you should be) and your ran the other transferring program as "Administrator".

I would copy some of the pictures to a location under your "My Documents" or move them to the "Shared Pictures" directory and see if MF6 can read them.
Could be a user rights issue, also make sure you have read/write capabilities for your assigned "Working Folder" under "Preferences" (F6 Hotkey).

You can use windows explorer and right_click on the pictures, select Properties | Security to make sure users have read/write capabilities, also check the directories security settings.

It does not appear to be a file protection, directory protection or anything similar to that. These are files that were transferred as FILES, not through any conversion method, they have also been used and identified without issue by 2 other computers, multiple other applications etc, without any issue. It seems that my factory installed MF5 does not recognize the .jpg file types for some strange reason.

I also tried to use the sample JPEG files supplied with Windows Vista, small shareable to the WORLD from the public folder and MF5 does not see them either.

MF5 Has an issue, or the program needs to be reinastalled or patched, it is not a file sharing or protection issue, I have over 20 years in computer system adminstration and know enough to determine the difference between an application issue and a file protection issue.

Is there a setting someplace that could be checked, or can I download a full install to do a re-install and see if that cures the problem?

Thanks Again

MF5 was released before Vista. Ulead has provided a Vista Patch or MF5. I don't remember reading if you have installed this patch or not. 2 Links are provided, one for MF5 Standard & one for MF5_Plus.
Toshiba laptop, read of some problems with MF5 version on those machines if it's the MF5 written specifcally for the Toshiba. If this is the version your using I don't believe you need to install the patch (nor will it install).

I am running the MF5 for Toshiba laptops, I tried the Patch download which failed saying it can not find MF5 installed.

Where or how do I find a reinstallable version of MF5 for the toshiba laptop. OR fix the problem, this was part of the reason why I purchased the laptop having the burning ability and the Ulead software.

Thanks for the quick replies

I don't know what the issue was etc, but I ended up Uninstalling MF5 and resinstalling it from the Toshiba CD, and it Now displays the jpg files and imports them.
Maybe something in the original install was off course
Thanks for the Help anyway

I think you can't install the patch because your version is already patched with the Vista update and a proprietory release through Toshiba.
Glad it's working now.

I've got the same problem! (MF 5 on Toshiba not seeing JPEG files). I've tried the reinstallation from the Toshiba recovery disks twice and it still doesn't recognize the jpg (and that's practically all my pictures!) Any ideas on what can I do to make it work properly?

Maybe this will help, appears that someone else having the same problems found an update to the program on the Toshiba website.
