Cannot activate WDVD8 after trial period (Vista)

Post by brian_wescombe »

I've been running the trial version, but my time has expired. So I've purchased a licence key. However I cannot get the software to activate. I enter all my details correctly and get a message that activation was successful, but when i restart the program I get the 'trial period expired' message.

I've tried the following:

Run the installer as Administrator
Run the program as Administrator
Disabling UAC
Installing the Activation Patch from the website

None of these work, so it looks like I've wasted my money unless there's a fix.

Anyone got any ideas?

I have the same problems and have tried all too. I reinstalled WinDVD8, I sended an email to the support, but did not received any answer. So I payed $60,- for nothing!!! I can't believe that a company which ignores the problems of their customers in such a way still exists!!!!!!!!!!!

I tried this, it didn't work either. I'm very annoyed now. For some reason though, if I run WinDVD from the built-in (hidden) Admin account, it will work fine. Not much use though if it won't work for normal user accounts (even with Admin elevation).

Looks like I've wasted my money. I'll recommend that people buy PowerDVD instead, as intervideo don't seem interested in the problem

Yes, I ran the installer as Administrator, and also the program after installing. Didn't work. Although as I said, it appears to activate, and it does work if I use the hidden Admin account. It only refuses to work on the 'normal' user accounts (either admin or Limited User)

Even if I disable UAC and run the installer using the fuill-privelige Admin account, it won't work on regular user accounts

You appear to have a Windows Permissions problem.
If it was a faulty program it wouldn't run with the hidden admin account.

I got this to work, but with some cheating! I have Ulead MovieFactory 6, which comes with the free 'silver' version of WinDVD 8. So I uninstalled the trial version, and installed the Silver version. After disabling User Account Control, I activated the Silver version using my purchased key. Sure enough, it activated and worked, upgrading the free version to Platinum! After re-enabling UAC, it's still working.
