Does Your VideoStudio10+ Keep crashing?

Post by cliveports »

Thought I'd share my solution with anyone getting as frustrated as I was!

VS10+ kept on crashing the moment I opened it (its a purchased copy BTW with SP1 installed) giving me the "ulead videostudio has encountered a problem and will shut down" type message.

On searching the forums I saw a lot of people had the same problems, I followed the clean de/re-install process as advised on this forum but it had no effect. On searching the internet I noticed a few vague references to codecs and VS clashing so I removed the following:-

QuickTime
RealPlayer
QT alternative
RealPlayer alternative
VLC

And hey presto problem solved, VS is now a solid as a rock!

I'm going to try loading these apps back one-by-one to see if I can find the culprit.

This of course is a summary of hours of frustrating fault finding!!! I was about ready to bin VS, swallow the cost and use another package. So I hope this helps someone out there!!

Thanks for the tip.
I was one who entered a post regarding VS10+ crashing.
I even reformatted my hard drive and started again without an improvement (on the problem).
I later found that when I 'turned OFF' automatic saving (as VS10 always seemed to crash when I was doing something which required the disk to be read) most of my problems went away.

Thanks for that tip too! I'll try it, although its totally stable at the moment.

I've loaded back QT and all seems to be ok. Apart from the fact I cant get Smartsound to work :(

Have you applied the SmartSound patch?

I would try VLC first. As far as I know it doesn't share the codecs with the windows system.

Thanks for the replies Chaps, Yup I've now applied the patch and all is well!

VLC is loaded back, as is QT and all working ok, so I'm guessing its an "order of install" that may have some importance

Cliveports..I too have suffered from random crashes using my favorite video editor UVS10plus. And , as you, (great minds follow the same path ) I suspected some thing else was in conflict with UVS10plus. I shut off my DSL modem and then shut down my anti virus program. My random crashes have been greatly reduced, although not 100% reduced. So, once in a while it crashes, but not as frequently as before. Thanks for the tip on the programs you have removed to make it stable. I will try isolating those programs
