Is it true that WinDVD 8 won't run on an Athlon processor?? Is there a patch available to fix this??

I did download and install it but all it does is show the splash screen and then exits saying something about a MFC error. I goolged the MFC error and followed the article and tried again and all I get is the splash screen and returns to Windows with no error messages and no task bar button and nothing about winDVD is listed in the Task Manager.

I've used, and now using Windvd on several athlon processors.

I did have similar problems with Windvd7 on new system, I had to change the way the SATA is set in bios and change it from IDE to AHCP. I don't know why this helped I just stumbled over it.

I got the same error in Vista, but only when I try to enable the Trimension feature: WinDVD don't work any longer: Vista shows failure window "WinDVD MFC Application don't work".
Have you enabled Trimension, too?
