Video Studio 10 Capture Problem

Post by paulares »

I have used Video Studio 8, then 9 and nwo just upgraded to 10 because I bought a computer w/Vista. I can only capture video to a windows format where I use to be able to capture to avi format. Out of all the formats to capture to I can only capture to the wmf. If I close Ulead then open the Windows movie maker program, already installed by microsoft, the software will capture to a avi format. Ulead will not, any ideas as to why? The previous Video studio versions worked great. After captureing using the windows movie maker to a avi format, I can use them in video studio 10 though. The error I get says "unable to build a preview".

Thanks for the info.

Version 10 was not built to be compatible with Vista, although an available patch seems to make it workable, but not perfect. Do you have the patch installed?

If you can capture to avi with another program you can import that file into VS.

Smart Music

After I lay music on the music spot and mute out the video. I cannot get the music to play. I can see the volume bar working but the sound is not there.

Can you elaborate? Where did you get the music (cd, download)? What format is it (wav, mp3)?

Music

MP3's. Also I purchased a smartmusic cd and installed it and it will not play them. It worked in Video Studio 9. Not in this version 10.

What happens when you split the audio from a video clip? Right click on a clip in the timeline and choose Split Audio. This will put the audio in one of the audio tracks and will mute the audio in the video track. (Don't worry. To get the audio back to the video clip you just unmute it.)

Read this post regarding No Sound

Also, here are a few threads with problems similar to yours. Hopefully one will contain a solution.

I split the audio per your directions and it works. If i place any music though in the audio tracks I get nothing.

And make sure you install the Vista patch for VS10... Be aware, though, that when VS10 operates in Vista, it disables the Aero see-through effect and in effect reduces whatever version you are using to Vista Basic...

However, we are expecting the release of VS11 any day now, and it will be compatible fully with Vista...

I havn't installed the V10 patch. I purchased the upgrade from 9 to 10 because my computer is Ultimate Vista. Would you recomend me performing the upgrade, It looks like it will cost something, or wait till 11 comes out. I just paid for this upgrade.

As I stated in my first reply, it's a patch so v10 can (kind of) work with Vista. It's free. It's not an upgrade. As far as I'm concerned it is necessary if you want to use v10 with Vista. Install the patch and see if that does anything to solve your problems.

Conclusion

Post by paulares »

Just want to finish up by saying I've used Ulead Video Studio from v6, I think back about 7 years ago or so, maybe earlier, to the present v10. I am one of those very satisfied customers. It's hard to pull me away from Ulead, I've mastered the software completely. I do not want to try to master another video editting software, I already have w/ulead.

Great job guys!
