Hi --
I've been making DVD's for a few months now, using Ulead DVD Workshop 2. On the whole, I am very satisfied with it. I have had a problem tho' and hope that someone out there has been able to solve this one:
I have been doing compilations of a TV series & have been made aware that commentaries were available for it. I know how to add the commentary track & how to set up a menu for it. However, the problem comes when using the menu.
When I watch the dvd on my PC the audio menu works fine, but when I play it on a dvd player, there seems to be a HUGE gap from the time I make the selection to the time the selection is acceptied on the player. This isn't just a problem with my DVD player because I've tried it on others. When I press the audio button on my remote, the change occurs properly. It's just when I use the menu. The time gap can be as long as 10 seconds.
This happens whether I have filled the disc to capacity or only partially full.
BTW, I can only make the audio menu using the template. Is there a way to do this particular menu without the template?
Anybody have any ideas?
Thanks for your wisdom

Time lag with audio menu

My guess (pure speculation):
It takes time for the player to reach the track where the info is stored and then to interpret what is on the track. DVD players do not have high-performance mechanics, neither do they have CPUs in the GHz range, so you cannot expect the same performance. They are designed to do a job. Both my DVD players (old and relatively new) are designed for adequate performance when playing DVDs, but nothing more.

Time lag with audio menu
George --
I have it set up on the menu. That's Where the lag is. If I use the audio button on the remote, the change is instantaneous.

Just to be clear -- do you have a separate audio-setup menu. Or do you have a menu with two buttons on it (as an example)
1) Play movie - soundtrack-1
2) Play movie - soundtrack-2
Another question is how did you burn the DVD (procedure and software used), and is it single or double layer?
Regards,
George

Time lag with audio menu
I have a seperate menu called Commentary, with 2 buttons. The button that says "on" is for audio track 2 ( the commentary) and the button that says "off" is track 1, the regular track.
As for burning, I just use the Ulead DVD workshop and follow the instructions that come up when you chose the "finish" tab.
Hope this helps...and thanks
