There are two main types:-
4:3 a standard square type tv¡¦
16:9 for wide screen tv.
I already have enough trouble as it is, explaining my granson the difference between a square and a rectangle, but if you now introduce the 4:3 square I'm giving up !
This my understanding of it.

Hi

Ok squarish as apposed to rectangularish.

Try explaining to him why Pal 720 x 576 is NOT 4:3
and 720 x 576 still fits 16:9

Hi Trevor,

here is what it says in the project properties:

NTSC drop frame (29.97 fps)
MPEG files
24 bits, 720 x 480, 29.97 fps
Lower Field First
(DVD-NTSC), 4:3
Video data rate: Variable (Max. 8000 kbps)
LPCM Audio, 48000 Hz, Stereo

preview and actual video output is different. in the preview, the pictures are normal.

i am from asia actually..

Hi Pink

Asia, I would have thought its Pal, I may be wrong, where in Asia

Check out your TV guide here
http://kropla.com/tv.htm
Not to worry it will not make much difference as to what you see.

OK
Insert a video clip to the timeline.
It should fill the screen if it¡¦s a standard size.

Right click the clip in the timeline and select properties.

What are they.?

Because the pixels are squarish and not square
Because the pixels are even more rectangularish.
This my understanding of it.

Pink:
do me a favor and answer this;
when you select one of your pictures in the timeline, what does come in the Resampling Attribute: Keep Aspect Ratio or Fit To Project Size?

When you Select the menu File - Project Properties - Edit tab, is the check box with "Perform Non-square pixel rendering" selected?

In the same dialog, the General Tab, what is under Display Aspect Ratio?
4:3 or 16:9
This my understanding of it.

hi trevor,

since my problem has to do with still images, that is what i inserted in the timeline; here is the property for the picture i inserted:

data type: rgb true color

width: 768 pixel

height: 1024 pixel

it doesn't occupy the whole screen but that's ok coz it looks the same and not stretched out.

by the way, i tried using cyberlink powerdirector.. is it ok to use 2 programs, coz there are some effects that i like in cyberlink (like moving path for the picture in picture)?

If you use the same sections with two or more programs (as opposed to using different programs for separate sections), then you should render the video from the first program in AVI format, not MPEG, to avoid compressing twice. Then import the AVI video into the second program.

If you use different sections, some from VS some from Powerdirector, then no problem just import all the MPG files later into the program you use to author the DVD. As long as the MPG are DVD-compliant there's no problem.
This my understanding of it.

Hi Pink

Sorry for the delay in reply:-

The image size at width: 768 pixel height 1024: is a portrait image.

The image should display in the preview screen full height with black borders to the left and right.
This is normal and is not a problem.

Pink--I am confused, at my age it doesn¡¦t take much.

What happened to this earlier post:-

hi here are the properties:

attributes:

data type: RGB True Color (24bit)

width: 1200

height: 1600

res: 72 pixel/inch

size: 5,625 kb

E-mail the image you are trying to use¡K¡K¡K¡K¡K

1) keep aspect ratio is chosen
2) i couldn't find the "perform non-square pixel rendering"
3) i also couldnt find the display aspect ratio..
1) If you choose Fit To Project Size the picture will fill the screen
2) That can be found under File > Project Properties. Click the Edit button to open the properties. It will be found on the first tab.
3) Display Aspect Ratio can also be found in Project Properties, on the second (General) tab.
