Hi

Sounds a bit like a 16:9 widescreen video.
Does the image look distorted or in proportion?

Right click on a clip in the library or timeline and select properties. What do the Video attributes indicate?

Have a read at my guide to widescreen 16:9 from the link below.

You also need to tell us what version of VS you are using, and what properties your video have.

If using VS10, have you made sure that 16:9 has (or depending on what your movie is) has not been checked in the splash screen which precedes opening of the program or within the program itself?

hi guys, the version i use is VS10+ and i checked, the 16:9 isn't checked. should it be? as for the property of the video, i actually only use pictures first to test this product. like a music video using pictures.

it's not distorted just looks a little flattened. when you say 16:9 what do you mean? i'm sorry i'm a little unfamiliar with this..

Could this be that your pictures are merely "resized" to the DVD 4:3 format while they originally are something else?

In this is the case checking the Edit/Attributes to Keep Aspect ratio should correct the problem...
This my understanding of it.
I have been proven wrong on several occasions in my life. It's not going to improve.

I suspect we are putting several carts before the horse...

Pink: can you tell us simply, what sort of camera you use to take your video and how you capture it to your computer,

Can you right click on one of the captured files within Video Studio, and copy down ALL its Properties here, please...

Hi Pink

16:9 is Widescreen TV

4:3 is Normal square TV

I assume you are testing the program out.

So what type of files are you inserting to the timelines??????
Video or still Images??????

Any type you use should display in proportion, but may produce a border.

Go to File--Project Properties do you see 4:3 or 16:9

I assume they will be 4:3

hi here are the properties:

attributes:

data type: RGB True Color (24bit)

width: 1200

height: 1600

res: 72 pixel/inch

size: 5,625 kb

should i have the 16:9 checked at the splash screen?

these are still images, i used my digital camera to take the pictures and these pictures are inside my file in the computer. i just imported it to VS.

when i press playback the images look the same but when i convert to video file that's when the pictures look flattened.

if i were to play this video over on projector screen like a lumens projector screen, what ratio should i use?

thanks so much.

Hi Pink

That looks like an Image File

1600 X 1200 is 4:3

This should fill the preview screen

Start a new project and insert the image again.

What does it look like?

hi, it still the same, it looks ok though, not distorted or anything but it just looks like it squashed somehow to fit the black bars at the top and bottom...

or can i remove those bars?

With an image in the timeline, click on the Image tab (beneath the library thumbnails). Under Resampling Option what is selected? Keep Aspect Ratio will give you the black bars top and bottom. Choosing Fit To Project Size will fill the screen.

No he didn't write 1600*1200 but 1200*1600 this is a sideways picture.
As I said earlier, (putting the carts before the horse to tease Australians that put five trailers behind a truck), I still believe this is a ratio problem.
This my understanding of it.

hi.. does anyone have a remedy for my problem? and what ratio should i use if movie is to be played on lumens projector screen (which means that the source is from a computer).

i'm actually just beginning to start learning about video editing and i tried Ulead coz it's affordable and quite easy to use. I'm interested in making wedding avps like moving pictures of the couple, how they met, stuff like that. is this a good product for me?

Hi Pink

Video Studio is a video editor and I think suitable for your needs.
Lets start again

There seems to be some confusion on ¡¥aspect ratio¡¦
There are two main types:-
4:3 a standard square type tv¡¦
16:9 for wide screen tv.

For your projects I would use 4:3.
Video Studio defaults to this standard.

When you start Video Studio you see the preview screen, you are looking at a project. It will be named ¡¥untitled¡¦, top left.
The preview screen is approximately 4:3 in shape.

There are two tv type systems, Pal (mainly Europe and AU) and Ntsc (mainly the US)

Where are you in this big wide world, are you Pal or Ntsc?

This determines the frame size (720 x 576) or (720 x 480)

OK start Video Studio
GoTo file ¡V Project Properties

What are they????
