impossibility of rectifying out of sync problems

Please go to www.inventa.com.au for an overview of out of sync problems and why they occur. More importantly, realise that THEY ARE INEVITABLE!

All the "helpful advice" from Ulead was just a cover for the reality that the problem is intractable. Don't waste your time!

FWIW, I've created a number of DVDs with UVS 8.01 that had between 2 and 3 hours of material with perfect A/V sync and no dropped frames.

The capture device obviously has alot to do with it, but the rest is about the workflow and the tools you use. UVS does a pretty decent job, and while it isn't perfect, it works well enough for me.

 I've never seen a commercial DVD where the lips were out of sync by one or two words!!!

It may be inevitable, but I've never seen a commercial DVD that was out of sync by one or two "words" (I'd estimate this is 1/4 to 1/2 second.)! Other users have reported errors of several seconds.

My problems were caused by editing MPEG-2 files with Visual Studio. Since switching to a special-purpose MPEG editor, the sync error problem is GONE! (At least the error is too small to be notiicable.)

[EDIT] -
I take that back.... I have seen bad lip-sync errors on commercial DVDs... in the 2nd language dubbed-in soundtrack!

That's interesting! I use a Sony DVD 201 that records only MPEGs, then I use VS8 to edit and out put a video file. Only time I ever has a sync problem was once when I was being a lazy boy and didn't shut down background services and make sure I had an uncluttered, defragged hard drive. Go figure. By the way DVDdoug, what program do you use to edit MPEG2's?

I have not had the OOS problem since reinstalling the original VS8 without the update patch. The other options are to avoid smart render or use LPCM audio rather than Mpeg.

I am not impressed with VS8 - it looks nice but is a nightmare to use.

However, I have not seen anything else any better!

Maybe VS9 will solve the problems.
