Video Studio 9 "Can't find menu template file"

Post by Badger42 »

I have been using Video Studio 9 for about 2 years but have now run across the situation described in the subject.

I have been converting old video tapes to DVD by copying the tape onto a DVD+RW using a stand-alone DVD recorder and using VS 9 to capture the resulting VOB files into my computer for editing.

All of this worked perfectly until about a week ago when I got to the "Share" stage, chose to create a Disc (as usual) but when I wanted a menu created, got the cryptic message "Can't find menu template file".

On checking the Ulead folder I found the .UFO files in the template folder, where, (I presume) they belong.

OK, I figure something has corrupted so I first try a System Restore to no avail. Then I tried uninstalling and reinstalling VS 9. Still no difference. So I reinstalled the OS (Windows XP) but VS 9 still wouldn't work. Tried uninstalling and reinstalling VS 9 again - still no go.

I tried downloading the trial version of VS 10 and it seems to work OK but I can't understand what is wrong with Version 9.

My system is a P4 3.0Ghz with 1Gig of RAM and 3 separate drives, one of which is entirely dedicated to video editing and storage. My OS is XP with SP2.

Video output required is to a DVD folder and the video format is PAL.

Any suggestions would be most gratefully received!

Hi

You seem to have tried most of the obvious solutions.

I had problems running QT 7 with VS 9. It was not particularly the templates, just had problems. My pc had done an auto update from 6 to 7.

Using QT 6 seemed to solve my problems. Comes on the VS 9 CD, Utilities option on the install screen.

Worth a try.

Oh Re-install the Indeo as well.

Clutching at straws

Thank you for your suggestions Trevor.
Unfortunately they didn't work but I do appreciate your effort in replying.

I'm beginning to think there must be some kind of conflict somewhere but the last thing I want to do is reformat and start over - I'm too fond of customising everything to suit myself!

Anyone else have any ideas? (I'm clutching at straws too!)
