AVI video to DVD video is like a slideshow
While using movie maker wizard, the end product comes out like a slide show, a continual series of stills with perfect audio yet the original avi file I can play on my computer perfectly. I just want to be able to create a dvd video using import avi files. Anyone have any suggestions?????

There is a pile of information we need in order to be able to provide any sort of sensible answer. But the most important is exactly what properties the .avi video has. Right click on one of the clips within Video Studio and copy down ALL its Properties here.
It would also be useful to know how you captured that video; whether any external device was involved; exactly what editing you might have done to it; and what the properties were of the mpeg-2 file you converted it to.
Some idea about your computer specs and OS would also be useful. Also, which version of VS are you using?

Do you have the DivX codec on your computer?
As you will be aware, it is a highly compressed mpeg-4 video which happens to use .avi as its wrapper format. It gives high quality, but is difficult to edit.
There are special programs out there to convert it to usable mpeg-2 for DVDs. On which springs to mind is DivX2DVD... But VS should be able to do it if it has the right decoder (in the DivX codec).
If you have a stand-alone DVD player rated to play DivX movies, you can simply burn it as is to a CD and the DVD player should auto-detect it and play it. You could also burn it to a DivX DVD, but of course, you would need quite a few more to fill up the space on a DVD.
DivX have even recently brought out a full authoring program to allow their movies to be burnt to disc with a full menu -- though only a few DVD players are currently rated to play these menus.
