Would you care to give us even the smallest hint as to exactly what you were doing when you got this message; what video was involved and its properties; what you were aiming to produce; what computer specs and OS you have; and even something as simple as what version of VS you are using...

Otherwise, we would be mind reading...

Sure Ken,

This error is generated when using the VS10+ Movie Wizard.

1. Open Movie Wizard
2. Insert Video (you can d/l sample at http://www.mondotrasho.ca/video/P1030716.MOV)
3. Click Next
4. Uncheck "Background" music.
5. Click Next
6. Click "Create Video"
7. Select WMV 320x240, 30 fps
8. Click Save and the error appears.

My system configuration you can get by clicking on the button at the bottom on my post that says "SYSTEM".

~m

I wondering if this is a bug with all MOV files.

Got it also.

Installed the VS10(+) bonus.exe file that's been laying on my CD for some time....

The video samples are AVI it won't open/preview any, giving the above message.
The standard video content samples (V01, V02 etc) is OK but I see they are all *.WMV

What intermediate filters would it need to read AVI files?

Edit: wait wait wait. I recently reinstalled the whole computer....
So the questions changes into:
where could I find (on another of my computers for instance) the AVI codec and how is it named? Why doesn't a standard install of Videostudio copy it???

Please no internet link, there is no way my video editing machine gets out of the room...
This my understanding of it.
I have been proven wrong on several occasions in my life. It's not going to improve.

Those avi sample video files use the Ligos Indeo XP Video 5.2 codec. This is not available for Vista, thus why you get the error message. In fact this was at one time a free codec. It is no longer free, and to use it, you must purchase it. It can be obtained from Ligo's Website for about $14.95 (US).

Yes I know that Daniel requested no links, however he's not the only one that may need this. Sorry Daniel links are provided when necessary. Also how then do you plan on getting the necessary codec if you don't want a link? It does not mean that you must use that PC to download it... ;)

thanks Ron, it was the failure to load that bothered me.
As you can imagine, I am not THAT interested in those particular clips...

I am happy with the explanation.
By that way what I wanted to do without links, was to copy the codec from one of the other machines here that can easily read those clips...
I needed to get any internet-free solution. But links are fine too as an additional data :) For clarity...

Add one pin for me to the Vista voodoo doll. Along the one for Cool 3D (yes I know thanks to you it works). And many others... Really glad my main machine still runs W2000 flawlessly...
