Audio Screeching on Playback

Post by mkochsch »

I'm editing a MOV file.
When the file is selected/highlighted in the timeline and previewed it plays find.
When something else is selected and the MOV turns "blue" the audio screeches like a locomotive hitting the brakes, metal on metal, completely distorted.
I just bought the full up version last night. I was using the 30 trial version prior to this and had no problems.
Help!

Thanks
Michael

Let me add that when clips are first imported into the Library, they play fine from the Library, but when played from the Timeline (while the focus is not specifically on the clip) the screeching is heard. The video is also very jumpy too.
thx.

The screeching is also embedded when I try to create a video file like a WMV or MPG.
It seems the "Project" is set to 48 kHz stereo audio and my clip (from a digital camera) is 8 k mono?!
Is there a way to change the project settings?

What is the make/model of your digital still camera? If it is a Kodak, then maybe trying the solution found in this post will help..

It's a Panasonic FZ50. I'll look through that post though, thanks.

How to get Panasonic MOV files to work in VS 10 on WinXP

Post by mrheckman »

You don't mention what types of audio files you are having trouble with. Can you be more specific?

Just to answer my own previous post, I tried the MOV patch solution proposed here, without success. VS 10 still screeched and VS 11 still crashed whenever I used a MOV video clip from my Panasonic camera.

But thank goodness Apple still makes older versions of Quicktime available! I used Quicktime 6.5 to avoid the screechy sound problem in VS10 -- see http://phpbb.ulead.com.tw/EN/viewtopic. ... hlight=mov for more information). VS11 crashed no matter what version of Quicktime was installed whenever I tried to import a MOV clip, but the same clips work great in VS 10 with Quicktime 6.5. That was the easiest fix. (Only for WinXP; Vista users are out of luck.)

Alternatives presented elsewhere in this forum include first converting the files to AVI using conversion programs such as Quicktime Pro (see
http://phpbb.ulead.com.tw/EN/viewtopic. ... hlight=mov for details about audio settings), SUPER (see http://phpbb.ulead.com.tw/EN/viewtopic. ... hlight=mov for the settings), and MP4Cam2AVI (found at http://sourceforge.net/projects/mp4cam2avi -- see http://phpbb.ulead.com.tw/EN/viewtopic. ... 543#110543 for settings), or using another video editing program to convert the files (I tried Vegas Movie Studio 6 and Adobe Premiere Elements 3, both of which had no problem with the video clips).

But all those solutions are for MOV video files. I don't think they will help you with specifically audio files.

Thanks (and thanks to everyone using the forum it's a new discovery for me... and i've learnt a lot)...

i've used v10 for 12 mths - sensational results.
downloaded v11 trial version started using it and seemed fine until i got to audio....
The project become unstable (too many files) so i split the project.. then i I added MPG-4 files to Music track all ok but then i added sounds to Voice track and they screetched ... the file were "MOV" and then same problem with "WMA" but all ok with "WAV". i converted the files to "WAV" and all ok? I also changed the MPG-4 files in music track to smartsound files (i assume that reduced file size)... so i bungled my way thru to get music and sound n when i have time i will research the problem).

FZ-50 Lumix Noisy Audio VideoStudio Quicktime

Post by mkochsch »

Yes. Thanks for that solution. I'm just doing another video project now and see that uninstalling Quicktime 7 and installing Quicktime 6.5.2 does indeed fix the white noise screeching audio problem on my Panasonic Lumix FZ-50 (which is a lightning bolt of a digital camera, buy one!!). I wonder why it only happened in Project mode and not clip mode? It's good to know that it's not necessarily the camera but the result of the developer relying on another developer's dll. No surprise there. Gee whiz though.

I found the same problem but using imported AVI files.

When playing as "Clip" everthing is ok, but when play as "Project" i can hear at non regular intervals a screeching noise in background. I'm importing from a MiniDV Camera Samsung VP D371W and i've experienced this problem with a lot (BUT NOT ALL) clips when playing in "Project" mode.

Anyone can help?

I am having the same problem with my audio using files from my Panasonic Lumix. I encounter either the pops or the screech or somtimes everything works perfectly.

I read the solution about re-installing QT 6.5.2 ; however, I am aVista sucker and I don't believe it is compatible. Does anyone know if QT pro solves this problem or should I search out another video editing software to convert the .mov files?

Thanks!

I have a Panasonic FZ8, and I also downloaded lots of .mov clips from other Panasonic digicams before I bought it, and ran some video editing tests with VS. At first, the sound on the output files was awful! It was like a jack hammer!

Applying the patch and power pack solved the problem completely, however, and another poster reported it also solved the similar trouble he was having with files from a Nikon digicam.

Applied the patch but I still have the same problem, glad it worked for you.
