no video playing when tryin to capture

hello folks, need help please.

i run windows vista and had to add a new low profile firewire card to my pc. it came with a ulead software which i installed. when i try to capture videos from my camcoder it doesnt show on the display screen and says `unable to switch to capture mode, check if your capture driver is working properly, failed to build a preview graph`.

any ideas?.. im not really up to speed on pcs so no heavy tech words please ..

Sometimes I have similar problems. Maybe some of my solutions will help!

When I capture with firewire I use a Canopus ADVC-100. I suppose that
would be similar to you using a camcorder.

If I don't see a picture, or if I get an error message such as yours I try the following.....

1. Turn off the ADVC and then turn it back on again.

2. Unplug the firewire cable and plug it in again.

3. I capture with many programs but the Ulead program I use
is DVD Movie Factory version 1. If the picture doesn't appear I
click the play button in the software and it appears. If it doesn't I
try steps 1 and 2 above.

Sometimes the PC needs to be rebooted if none of the above work!
