I normally select PAL-DVD as the media type when I create a video file in VideoStudio 10 and then use the resulting mpeg-2 file to burn DVDs. No problem.
However if I try to play the mpeg file on any other computer in Windows Media Player I don't get any audio. On those other computers, when I display the properties for the loaded mpeg file within WMP it shows no audio codec. (WMP v11 in Windows XP, fully updated) The video files play Ok in WMP on the computer where VideoStudio 10 is installed, and in that case WMP tells me that the audio codec is Ulead DVD audio decoder.
What's the best way to reliably share the mpeg files with people on other computers (other than burning them as DVDs)?
Thanks
David
No audio when mpeg files played on other computers

First, you have to tell us (at least) what the audio format was that you used on the DVD. That should be in your project properties.
Will the people you give the copies to all play them on a computer, or in stand-alone DVD players. If the latter, almost undoubtedly they will hear the audio if it is in the standard LPCM, mpeg layer 2 or Dolby formats.
Clearly one or more of the codecs associated with these formats is not available to WMP on your other computers, and my first guess would be Dolby...

Audio properties
The videos were not distributed on DVD. They were either on a data CD or files on a local network.
The properties of the file are:
PAL (25 fps)
MPG file, 24 bits, 720x576, 25 fps
Lower field first
MPG-2, 4:3
Video data rate: 6000kbps
Audio data rate: 224 kbps
MPEG Audio layer 2, 48 KHz, stereo
WMP plays them without complaint except that there is no audio (unless I play them on the computer which has VideoStudio installed).
Thanks
David
