Bugs In Movie Factory 4

Post by ctbcubed »

The following issues seem to be bugs with this new version.

1- Audio sync is lost when commercials are edited out of a clip. This does not happen when the same operation is performed using MF3. For me, it renders MF4 useless.

2- Audio is lost altogether when importing a DVD with audio properties listed as "Dolby Digital 1 Channel". There is no problem if the audio properties are listed as "Dolby Digital 5 Channel" or MPEG Stream. This is a problem that coincides with the installation of MF4 and DVD Player 2. Does not occur with MF3.

3- The shrink to fit application refuses to recognize a PAL source DVD (my default is NTSC). It should recognize either PAL or NTSC and shrink accordingly. NERO Recode does this flawlessly.

Item #2 has been reported to Tech Support but no response yet. Item #1 will have to be fixed before this program will suit my needs. That's too bad, because I really like the ability to customize menu elements and the new editing navigation tools are very nice. Perhaps some patches will come to the rescue soon.

For now, I will go back to MF 3.

For #1, how do you get the source files? What's the codec in the file?

For #2, is the DVD you used to import a non-commercial DVD? How do you get the DVD?

For #3, I think you need to let Ulead know about it to see if what you think is correct.

Thanks for your reply.

#1) Source of the mpeg file is from a reliable TV capture device and is mpeg2 6000kbps VBR with mpeg audio. The point is that this clip works fine with MF3 (audio sync maintained after removal of comercials) and not with MF4. I seriously doubt that this is impacting me only.

#2) The DVD is a commercial, non copy protected DVD. Video stream is mpeg2 with Dolby Digital (not 5.1) audio. Again, this imports correctly when using MF3 but not with MF4.

#3) I don't really care if this works or not because NERO Recode does what I need.

You asked why I posted here and on the Movie Factory 4 forum. That's simple. Some people may not look at both forums. Secondly, maybe ULEAD looks here (or there) to see what users are experiencing. I have not had any response to my direct queries to their tech support. I do have extensive experience with their products (Media Studio 5- 7, Video Studio, Picture Show, Movie Factory 1 - 4) and I know that it usually takes awhile to iron out the bugs. I like the products because they usually work great once the bugs are fixed. Right now I've got a $100 invested in a program that has lots of great new features but lacks the basic functions that I need.
