Hi there!,
I'm new on this forum. This is my problem: MPEG files that are in the right format ("compliant MPEG files") do not need to be converted during DVD creation. This should result in fast creation of DVD disks from the right type of MPEG files
The videoclips I use are files recorded from the DVB-T TV with an Hauppauge WINTV NOVA-T and are in PAL DVD-VIDEO format: 720x576 (upper field), 25 fps, MPEG-2 and audio is MPEG layer 2 192 kbs. But the process of creating a DVD takes ages, with the majority of the time being spent "converting video". This takes about 3 x as long as the length of the clip.
I have tried manipulating many of the parameters but none of them seem to let me skip this conversion stage.
I've tried the guides on this forum concernig this "Do not convert compliant MPEG files" but I couldn't find any for MovieFactory, only something (not very clear, actually) for VideoStudio.
Many thanks.
"Do not convert compliant MPEG video files"
The "Do not convert compliant MPEG files" is located under the "Project Settings" accessed by clicking on the GEAR Icon (Bottom of Timeline).
What are the video & audio data rates? Are they dvd compliant.
You can click on the "I" (left of the timeline) to obtain the properties of the video or right click on the Thumbnail and select "Media Properties"

I have set "Do not convert..." on the Gear tab (on bottom left) and the average bitrate of the video is about 5/5,5 Mbit/s. The audio has a constant bit rate of 192 kbs, as I said before.
It all looks compliant to me. But, sometimes I've bad files that I thought were DVD complaint, and the Ulead software didn't agree...
I have no idea why this happens, but it does.
Most of the time, the files created by my analog Hauppauge card are treated as compliant. The audio needs to be converted, because MPEG audio is not NTSC DVD compliant. (MPEG audio is PAL DVD compliant.) The audio conversion typically takes about 10 minutes.)
I didn't think DVB had the correct resolution, and I thought the bitrate was too high... It might depend on the particular system you're on, and it might even vary from channel-to-channel or from program-to-program. Or, your Hauppauge card may be converting the format on-the-fly....

Mmmh, it can't be. I was used to make DVD with Nero 6 and it always recognize my Hauppauge TV recordings thanks to its module Smart Encode and burn them on DVD straightly. In MovieFactory it never works, with no file (I've tried many). Actually I succeeded (just onceDVDDoug wrote:It all looks compliant to me.
