I'm a newbie at VideoStudio 8, awaiting permission from corporate to allow me to download the trial and subsequently purchase version 10. In the meantime, I'm using trial version 8. There's also the little detail about not having a DVD player/writer yet. In spite of all these trial and tribulations, I was able to create a movie with chapters which do display properly when I go through the Share / Create Disc steps. However, I can only really create a disc image for now, which I apparently did successfully in about 2 hours. It saved it as an OSI format, which I was only able to open with Windows Movie Player. And the movie does play, but without any of the chapters/menus that I created. Is it possible to create a true DVD image that will play just like it will on the DVD player, or is my limited access to hardware the culprit here? Thanks in advance for any suggestions.[/list]

The terminology may be different for v8, but when you get to the burn window choose Burn to DVD Folders. Then you can use any DVD software player, such as PowerDVD, to watch your movie - complete with your menu.

I am intrigued as to how you managed to get a trial version of VS8 when it has been 'obsolete' for over two years... Or do you mean you have an SE version?

If the latter, then it is crippled in various ways. If it says 'Basic' it means you don't even get the luxury of ever being able to construct a DVD. But that is apparently not the case with your version.

The version was provided free with the purchase of a PC or other hardware that the company has. It appears to have full functionality. It does say that it's version 8.0 SE VCD. Other people in the company also have original disks.

OK. That's not a trial version, but a crippled version, and the title implies you can never use it to produce a DVD, only a lesser quality VCD which is burned to a CD.

Hopefully your bosses will soon clear the way to upgrading to a full version of VS10+, though you might want to wait for the new version 11, whose release is imminent.

Thanks for the suggestion re: version 11. I was successful in creating a DVD folder with 8.0 SE (after following your suggestion), which I copied to a 4G thumb drive, gave to a colleague who created a DVD, which we watched on TV and on a PC. It looks great and the boss was thrilled. Now I just have to figure out how to view the DVD in one window while viewing the accompanying PDF in another window. The boss does NOT want it integrated / overlaid with the video, since people are likely to flip through the PDF's and won't want to have the movie restrict their navigation. And he wants both on one master DVD with a menu. Not a clue what tool to use...

What I think you are trying to do is include a PDF file on the same DVD disc as the Video?

If so you need to burn personal folders to the disc.
VideoStudio 9.0
VideoStudio 10

You cannot include an option on a DVD menu to run a piece of software (such as a PDF file) or an internet hyperlink.

You may have seen something on commercial DVD's that appear to do this but in fact they are subtlety fooling the viewer (on a computer not a standalone DVD player) into believing they are viewing a standard DVD menu. In fact they are looking at a computer program designed to look like a DVD Menu.
