Audio sync probs with Videostudio 10 *weird*

Post by orbital »

Hello there. Browsing the forum I found many threads related to OOS problems,i spent more than an hour reading them all and also some guides but: a.they got issues slightly different than mine and b. they didnt seem to help me sort it. So:

I got P4 3.0 with an Ati radeon 9600 and 1 gb of ram.
I purchased and have been working for awhile with Video Studio 10.
I mostly use it to compile and put together bits from various videos i ve been given. I dont really use for the time being video captured from camera so thats not where my problem is.

Now,problem is that while everything has been working fine for some time,I now noticed that some videos I import in timeline seem to have audio out of sync related to the video problems. Gradually audio gets out of place some seconds. And by that I mean that it is already out of sync in preview mode before i render it to a brand new file or burn it or even make any transitions or any kind of editing.
And I have tried to use the advanced preview option and even render it to a file anyway to check if it was a preview-problem only.
The audio is always out of sync.

Now,I noticed that it is suggested working only with lossless AVI files because working with other formats could result to OOS problems (something i wasnt aware of when i chose video studio and i now find it a major flaw and limiting if thats really the case).
Most of the videos I work with are XVID, BUT that doesnt say much because I have already edited with a couple of them without any problems. Even MPEG or WMV ones. And I thought OOS problems were mainly a Video Studio 8 issue.

Here is some Attributes Info from two videos that work just fine and perfectly in sync, notice second video is even in MPEG 2 format:

And two that always seem to be out of synch:

4.

I took sometime trying to compare these 4 videos and find any differences they got that they might cause the problem. I couldnt. Can you see any?
I also tried to mess with the project settings. I m not really sure which are the best there (editing in avi or mpeg? in how many FPS etc) but my guess is that they got to be identical with the input video attributes (what happens if i got videos with different attributes btw?).
So I tried messing with them setting project settings to what seemed identical to the video input (same FPS etc) but problem would be still there.
Also I have to mention that videos that used to work before STILL work now even if place them in the same project with some videos which are out of sync so i guess the whole issue isnt cause by any possible changes I made into my system?

All this really frustrates me cause I like VideoStudio editing abilities in general and I m fairly disappointed with this OOS issue.
I tried to be as much detailed as I could, maybe its something really simple that I missing like a totally obvious setting change or something.
So...Any ideas...?

Hi orbital

Welcome to the forum.

I do not think the problem is video studio related, but a bad/faulty/corupt file.

Have you played the video files in Media Player/Real Player/ Power dvd etc to check audio Sync¡¦

I think it's been established that highly compressed formats such as Xvid, DivX, etc. are meant to be viewed, not edited. IMHO you are taking a chance when trying to edit these sorts of formats, no matter what software you use.

Some people have reported success by first converting these formats to more editable-friendly formats such as DV-AVI. At the moment I do no recall which third-party software will do that, but I'm sure you could find it with a search of the forum, or someone with that info will provide the answer.

Thanks for the welcome.

Alas,I kinda saw the "anything else but lossless avi will probably fail" coming.
Trevor files arent corrupted, they work in all my video players just fine.
Also concerning the "general software problem" thing I just went on and tried to load some xvid videos that go out of sync in video studio to windows movie maker which i thought to be worse than video studio.
Video are in sync there.
Thats why I posted caps and asked that anything that i might be doing wrong in video studio. some project settings or anything.
Anything i could try to make them work there?
I mean... come to think about it... in WMM they are just fine....

Hi

Sorry but I do not have an answer to your out of sync problem.

If you e-mail the small suspect file, I will see if its OOS on my pc.

If the clip gradually gets out of sync, try cutting it up into smaller clips and see if that fixes the problem.

What is the initial captured file type and capture settings.
What are those corrupted files details : field order (UFF LFF or frame based), frame type (cbr or vbr) , frame rate ??
