Hello.
Frustation is the mild word for this run around... maybe someone in this forum can help. I purchased the new VIDEO STUDIO 10+ after purchasing my new DELL Dimension E520 with MS VISTA (Business). I have a JVC GR-DVL920U Camcorder and was ready to capture my first time with the new system. OK, Video Studio froze... checked that Video studio was not the problem because I did a simple capture with Microsoft and that failed to capture as well... SO here's what I did.
1. Called JVC and asked if there were compatible (firewire) drivers for the new VISTA. (Response) We don't have drivers for for firewire only USB. It sounds like a VISTA issue call them.
2. Called MS VISTA and they asked if Vista came installed on the DELL. Yes it did. (Response) It's then a DELL issue call them.
3. Called DELL and they asked if everything was working from a hardware standpoint. Yes it is. (Response) You then need to call JVC.
Weeeeee! Around we go.
I'm almost 100% certain this is a VISTA Driver issue... anybody have any suggestions on what to do next?
Thanks in advance.

The fact of the matter is that it is not "the new Video Studio 10+" -- it was released a year ago, and was thus not designed for Vista. There is, however, a patch for it which will apparently make it work with Vista -- though apparently with some modification of the Vista desktop necessary (I think it needs Aero disabled...)
I have only recently bought a HP Pavilion 9000 laptop with Vista Home Premium, but I am refusing to even bother loading VS10+ on it. I am waiting for VS11+ which should be out any day now if Ulead's usual release cycle holds.
In the meantime, "the new Movie Factory 6", which was only recently released, is fully Vista compatible.
Mind you, none of this explains why you could not get (I assume) Vista's new Movie Maker version to capture...

Buy a copy of XP and run a dual boot until all of this Vista nonsense is resolved, after a major service pack.
I understand that some people buying new machines can't help but get Vista and this seems to be your case, but to others who had to run out and try an upgrade and then complain that things don't work, well, all I can say is here we go again. It happened from 98 to ME, from NT to 2000, from 98 to XP. etc....
Video is probably the most problematic software to work with on any Windows based system. Jumping operating systems in midstream does not help.
I am still sitting here with 2000 and having no problems what so ever, however, I do know that sooner or later I will have to update if I want to run any of the new Adobe software that I need. If I can hold off for the first service pack of Vista, so much the better.
Oh as to your question, it's nothing more than a circle jerk when Dell and MS start blaming each other. I hold Dell in about as much regard as I do MS, and that ain't much.
