Dvd playing hangs after few minutes

Post by gijii »

Hi all,

yesterday, for the first time I tried to make a dvd of a .avi file that I took via firewire from my camcorder.
I just wanted to convert it to dvd format for backup and to free 27 Gb of hard disk space.
I used Dvd Movie Factory SE that was bundled with my tv card.
No editing was needed.
I just followed the wizard and I got a dvd with just one file/menu on it.
Exactly what I wanted.
The problem is that when I play it either on my dvd player or my pc the video hangs after few minutes while the counter keeps going on.
What is the reason of this issue?
Should I split the movie in more files instead of having a big one?

If the PC cannot play it, then it might have been a bad burn :?:

Do you have packet-writing sofwtare installed (if so, turn it off or disable it).

What type of discs did you use, and what burn speed? maybe slowing down the burn speed and changing discs types could also help...

Try burning a DVD to DVD Folders on your hard drive, then burn them to disc in a separate step.

George,
thank you for your reply.
I do not have a packet writing software installed.
I used a Princo dvd-r 4.7 Gb dvd and I burned it at the minimum speed (2x) to have a better quality burn.
I will follow your suggestion.
Just for info I experienced the same problem with various dvd that a friend of mine burned using a stand alone dvd recorder for tv.
