DVD Burner busy

Post by jcc »

I cannot burn a DVD with MF 4, due to it incorrectly concluding that my burner is busy. (I can run another program and use the VIDEO_TS files to burn the DVD).

Any suggestions please.

Just a note to let you know that I too am experiencing the same problem. I've reported it to Ulead and they've "escalated" the issue.

Here's what I've been experiencing:

After the rendering process I get a message that “The burner is busy for another application.” I click on the OK box contained in the message, and I get another message box saying “Drive is not ready.” I click on that OK box and I am left on the burn page of the program. If I’ve elected to create an .iso file, it has been completed and can be burned using the Burn Now program from MF3 that I have as part of a dual boot system on the same machine. The iso file will not burn using Burn Now 2.0 on the system containing MF4. I get the same series of errors mentioned above.

It would be interesting to know if others are encountering this problem. The more who do report it the more likely we are to get a quick fix.

If you can give step by step problem descriptions it would be more helpful.

H.T., if you're referring to my reply, and not the original poster's, I don't know what more I can add, but I'll give it a try.

The problem exists with any kind of DVD project, whether it be a movie, slideshow, or data. When you press the Burn button for a project, the program proceeds to render it - going so far as to create DVD folders or an iso file. Then, when the program proceeds to actually burn the project to a DVD, it says it can't access the burner, giving you the various error messages I outlined in my reply to the original post.

MF4 replaced MF3 on my machine and MF3 never had a problem accessing the burner. Indeed, the Burn Now part of MF3 is still able to access the burner and can burn the iso files created by MF4. I tried removing both MF3 and MF4 and then reinstalling MF4 and it made no difference. I still get the MF4 error messages when it's time to burn a DVD.

Thanks for your interest. Robert

Hi Robert,

Thanks for your explainations. I was referring to the original poster. However, I think your posts are still helpful to indentify the problem.

I will check with Ulead to see if it can be fixed.

H.T, yes the original post was rather cryptic - that's why I replied because I wanted to provide some more background info - and to see if others were experiencing this same problem.

Hi Guys,

Please check out the same discussion going on in another thread: "MF4 will not burn DVD". I suggest that if we can all congregate in the same forum we have a better chance of getting this fixed!

As you will see in my posting, MF3/trial worked fine for me but the instant I paid $100 bucks for MF4 (two days ago) the damn thing worked once and thereafter gets stuck in a (bogus) "No disc or disc error" message - now it doesn't even work as a door stop.

In this forum I read mixed reviews about Ulead's technical support; evidently ok by phone and woeful via email. Monday after Easter I'll be on the phone and either this (fatal) problem gets fixed in a couple of days or I shut off my credit card charge.

Any comments?

As I noted above, I reported this problem to Ulead Tech support by phone on 17 March. They had no record of any such problem occurring. On the same date, I also sent them by email a detailed description of the problem. I used a form that they had emailed me after my phone call. I was told I would receive a response in a few days.

Needless to say, it is now over a week and I've not heard a word from Ulead. Not even an acknowledgment of my email and that they're working on it.

Hi Robert,

As I know, some email programs and ISPs will recognize Ulead tech support account as spam sender, so the mail might be deleted by them automatically. For this situation, I think to phone Ulead would be much better and faster.

Workaround

Post by Chuck Fogarty »

I'm still using version 2 of the product, but I've had the same problem since upgrading the "Burn Routines". My workaround is to use DVD+RW discs, and when it can't recognize the disk, I start up Nero Express and ERASE the DVD. Once you've erased it, click the retry option in Ulead. Most times it will then recognize the DVD.

Now, WHY does this happen? I'm not sure, but I'll bet it is a conflict with my packet writing software, InCD.

burner is busy

just disable the "enable udf recording on this drive" option under the properties of your DVD burner.

Or, try to uninstall the Ulead Data-Add 2.0 from the Add/Remove Programs.

Can't burn with MovieFactory 4

Post by Centauri27 »

I am getting the same problem too with MF4--the program chugs away, then it reports that it can't burn because the DVD drive is being used by another application--and this after I've rebooted the computer. Acknowledging this prompt displays the "Drive not ready" message.

I've tried other people's suggestion of burning an ISO file, but I get even stranger errors:

** Some required modules are lost. Please reinstall them.

Then:

** Invalid device number. (internal error)

Methinks MF4 was rushed out of QA a bit too early. MF3 was far more stable.

I'm going to report this to Tech Support right now. I'd be interested in hearing when other people get a reply.

Carl, as I noted above, on March 17 I reported this problem - along with 4 others such as loss of sound in WMP - to a phone tech and, at his request, in writing on that same date. I have yet to receive any kind of response. On March 30 I again called tech support and was told that my problem had been sent to Taiwan and they were still awaiting a reply. It is now a week later and I've still not heard anything. I guess it was forwarded by the proverbial slow boat to China.

I have found that using Windows Add/Remove programs to remove Ulead Data-Add 2.0 does indeed solve my particular 'burner busy' problem.

Thanks for the suggestion. With the extra content, I think that I now have a functioning piece of software at last.

Removing "Data Add" did the trick!

Post by Centauri27 »

I am happy to report that after removing the "Data Add" feature, I can now burn DVDs normally in MF4. I was also able to create an ISO file without getting the weird errors I received before.

I was wary of installing the "Data Add" feature in the first place. I had nothing but grief trying to get Nero's "InCD" feature to work properly. Seems all these packet writing programs are nothing but trouble--I recommend everybody stay away from them! Just look at Ulead--they can't even get MovieFactory to work properly with THEIR OWN packet-writing program! (I no longer have Nero or any other packet writers installed).

I hope this hint works for everyone else. Just to go Add/Remove Programs and uninstall "Ulead Data-Add".

Cheers.
Carl
